IQF Long Beach Quilt Show - time to plan your visit to Southern California

The International Quilt Show Long Beach is coming soon and you are invited to join the fun and great weather.  If you haven’t yet made plans to attend this show, there is still time.  You can come by plane, boat, car, bus, or train, but do attend this wonderful show.  It is the largest International quilt show on the West Coast, where more than 1000 beautiful quilts, textiles and wearable art will be displayed, over 450  fantastic vendor booths, and there are more than 100 classes with many that  still have openings for you to participate.

They have several special quilting exhibits including:
  • Baltimore Album Review II: Baltimore’s Daughters—Friends Stitch Past to Future. This is an exhibit of quilts, made either by hand or by machine, in the Baltimore Album style. It will feature the very best examples of the Baltimore Album quilt revivalist movement, including many from the collection of Baltimore expert/artist/curator Elly Sienkiewicz.
  • SAQA: Sightlines and SAQA: Creative Force 2010 exhibits
  • Text on Textiles: Words as Design in Quilts. This exhibit showcases quilts in which words and fabric come together to form a unique statement. This is the second installment of a three-year project that will culminate in a contest this year.

which reflect a Canadian theme or subject.

Within the event is Make It University! ™, a mixed-media pavilion featuring the arts of scrapbooking, rubber stamping, fiber art and paper crafts, textile arts, and more. Developed in collaboration with Cloth Paper Scissors®magazine and its editor Pokey Bolton, Make It University! ™ includes teaching showcases, workshop projects, vendors, Open Studios, and special exhibits.  Remember to bring your ATC cards to trade!

And remember Southern California is a great place for the family too.  In Long Beach there are wonderful attractions, including visiting the Queen Mary, touring the Aquarium of the Pacific, and visiting nearby Disneyland, along with enjoying a swim in the warm Pacific Ocean or a walk on the beach, as well as shopping at some lovely nearby quilt shops!  This is a spectacular quilt show, so I hope you get a chance to come see it and enjoy Southern California too.

You may also want to mark your calendar for future show dates too.  In 2012, classes start July 26th.  In 2013, classes start July 25th.
