Book-A-Round 3: Scrap-Applique' Playground & Giveaway

Kay Mackenzie is hosting  a fun  Book-A-Round (aka blog hop), to celebrate the release of her delightful new quilting book "Scrap-Applique'' Playground".  And, SewCalGal is absolutely thrilled to be part of this fun  event and share insights with you on this amazing book today!

"Scrap-Applique' Playground: Turn Quilting Scraps into Fun Applique' fabrics" is an excellent new book for quilters of all levels that want to make fun projects for their home and/or for gifts.  It is also a great resource to help those that want to use up fabrics in their stash!  This book will totally change your perspective on your scraps and scrap quilts and you'll want to spend time "in the playground".
Martingale - Scrap-Applique Playground (Print version + eBook bundle)

Kay shares her technique with Scrap Applique', where she sorts scraps and strips to create beautiful compositions that do not require measuring or calculations.  Techniques in this new book vary from piecing to fusing, yet all result in visually stimulating designs that everyone will love.

Some people are scared of applique', but the techniques in this book are really very easy with Kay's instructions.  Several methods of applique are provided (e.g. Turn and Press, Freezer Paper, Fusible and working with bias edges).  Likewise, there is a section on stitching methods that shares insights on Edge Stitch, Blanket Stitch that have great instructions and visuals.

There are eight cheerful and simple applique' designs in this book that range in size from the smallest being 10"x12" and the largest project being  35 1/2" x 25 1/2".   Material requirements, cutting instructions, applique' templates and sewing instructions are easy to follow, making this an excellent book for quilters of all levels.

Here are a few projects included in this book:

Lollipop Park is a fun quilt that measures 28 1/2 x 11 1/2" is so yummy!
Martingale - Scrap-Applique Playground (Print version + eBook bundle)

Studio measures 30 1/2 x 12 1/2" would look great in any sewing studio.  I'm already planning on making several of these for Christmas gifts.

"Thank You, Teacher" measures 10" x 12".  This is a very fast and fun mini-quilt that certainly would make for a wonderful gift for any teacher, a project for a school fundraiser and an endless number of possibilities. I do love this fun design, but particularly enjoy the interesting frame as well as the spectacular bias-covered edges.

Crazy Hearts finishes 21 1/2" x 21 1/2".
Martingale - Scrap-Applique Playground (Print version + eBook bundle)

I hope you get a chance to check out this new book at your local quilt store. And, if you don't see it, let them know you are intestered in having them available.    And, of course, you can also find it at Martingale's online store too!

You can also find out more about this book by visiting the blogs that are participating in this Book-A-Round to learn their insights.  Each blog is also hosting a giveaway for a copy of this book, but you need to enter within a 2 day window of their respective date on this blog hop.  Visit Kay's blog (All About Applique') for current links to the blog posts for this event.

And, you can find Kay at:

I really love the book and will definitely have to have a copy of my very own! Hopefully I will be successful at winning a copy on the blog hop =^..^= I'm a huge fan of planned scrappy quilts, and bringing that scrappy-happiness into applique seems like a very natural progression to me. Can't wait to try it!!!
