Quilt Passions

Are you passionate about quilting? Do you enjoy traveling to Hawaii? Or, have you never had an opportunity to visit Hawaii?  Well, I don't need much of a reason to hussle thru the TSA lines and squeeze into an airline seat for a visit to Hawaii.  I'll go any day of the year!  But if you need a reason, let me share some insights with you about Quilt Passions.  I think a visit to Quilt Passions is just the reason you might need to come to the Big Island of Hawaii!

Quilt Passions is owned by Karen Barry, who is very friendly and has great insights about quilting.  They've recently moved into a new location (in the same complex), which has allowed them to expand the size of their store.  They now have more room to display beautiful quilts (many of which are for sale at very reasonable prices), a lovely classroom, a men's room (with flatscreen tv and remote), a sale room, and spacious aisles of beautiful fabrics and various novelties, patterns, jewelry and other items.

Quilt Passions has an excellent selection fabrics, all beautifully displayed.

Barbara Bieraugel  is the in-house designer showcased at Quilt Passions.  She has many beautiful patterns too!  All available for purchase at Quilt Passions store in Kona, Hawaii (Big Island) or via Quilt Passions online store.

Quilt Passions Turtle Fabric {above} is their own exclusive batik turtle/honu fabric.  This is an exclusive line of fabric with Hoffman Fabrics.

{above}  They also have a large selection of hand-made Hawaiian quilts for sale, at very reasonable prices.  If you are interested in owning an Hawaiian quilt, SewCalGal recommends you contact Quilt Passions for more information.  They have the most beautiful Hawaiian quilts, table toppers at the best prices I've ever seen!

{above} Quilt Passions also has an excellent selection of beautiful high quality yarns.

Quilt Passion also has many wonderful classes.  If you are going to be in the area SewCalGal recommends you their online class schedule, in advance, to see what classes will be going on when you are in the area.  I must confess that I sadly  missed a great opportunity to attend a fantastic paper piecing class, using techniques by Caryl Bryer Fallert.  But I did fall in love with the pattern to make this beautiful quilt with a Manta Ray (below).

Quilt Passions also has fun events throughout the year.  For example, you may want to plan a trip to be able to participiate in their President's Day weekend activities (3rd weekend in February.  This is followed by a week of special classes and instructors.  They also host annual shop hops with other stores on The Big Island in the spring.  So, definitely take advantage of their online calendar for planning your trip to Hawaii.

Clearly, Quilt Passions creates many wonderful reasons to visit the Big Island of Hawaii.  And for those lucky quilters that live on The Big Island and get to frequent Quilt Passions...you are very lucky.  This is a top notch quilt store that is a must see for those visiting Hawaii.  And, if you are not able to visit Hawaii soon, I hope you'll visit Quilt Passions' online store.  I think you'll enjoy the spirit of Aloha and want to return again soon!

On a related note, I also want to share that while I'm in Hawaii and checking out Quilt Stores, fabric stores, books, designers, etc., I'm also looking for items for a special Hawaiian giveaway that I'm planning for late May.  So, stay tuned.  I hope to have a basket full of beautiful Hawaiian items (e.g. fat quarters, patterns, books, etc.).  I'll be share more insights on this giveaway late May.

I love the things you showed from that store. I used to enjoy seeing Lisa Boyer's Hawaiian-themed quilts on her blog but she hasn't posted in months. I"m worrying about her, actually, as she seems to have disappeared from Blogland.

Great blog! I too love Hawaii. My daughter was married there and lived there for four years. In fact my youngest granddaughter was born there.
