Day 5 - EQ Blog Hop - Red/White Quilts and a Giveaway!

red and white EQ Blog hop

Welcome to Day 5 of the EQ Blog Hop Celebrating A Year of Red and White Quilt Challenges!

Today is the last day of this hop, where all of the participants have shared a variety of tips, tutorials and inspirational designs using EQ software.  SewCalGal has certainly had fun and learned new things and hope you have too!

SewCalGal wants to encourage everyone to visit  Love to Stitch.  Raewyn lives in beautiful New Zealand and she shares insights on a variety of inspirational projects on her blog, along with wonderful tips, tutorials and fun.  And I'm delighted to have her participating in our EQ Blog Hop this week and hope you enjoy her post (and overall blog) too!  I think you'll enjoy reading her post today and seeing how she used the Serendipity Tool to make a variety of unique and beautiful blocks based on the Bears Paw block design.

For more fun and inspiration, this next week SewCalGal is hosting a virtual Red and White Quilt Show for quilts made prior to 2014.  Everyone that has made such a quilt is invited to participate, including bloggers and non-bloggers, designers and quilters.  I think you'll find many beautiful quilts shared, along with insights on designs that may inspire you to make a red/white quilt project in 2014.

I hope we've inspired you to create a design (you need not make your project) and enter it  in the upcoming Design It! Quilt Challenge.   This challenge will be held February 10th - March 23rd.  While it will certainly be easier to create a design using EQ software, if you are not an EQ user you can still enter your design that you create using other software packages and even drawing on paper.  The rules and a linky for this challenge will be posted this on February 10th on SewCalGal.

During the EQ Blog Hop this week, insights have been shared on creating:
- basic pieced quilt blocks
- basic quilt designs
- STASH fabric collections
- using the Serendipity Tool was shared by Love to Stitch
- a variety of inspirational block and quilt designs was shared in the Behind the Mouse, the Electric Quilt BlogKissed QuiltsBeaquilter  and Love to Stitch.

If you didn't visit all of the blogs that participated in this hop, here is the line up:

Monday, January 27th
SewCalGal

Tuesday, January 28th

Wednesday, January 29th

Thursday, January 30th

Friday, January 31st

And I hope we've inspired you to create your own design for the Design It! Challenge, as well as to participate in other challenges and shows that are part of the Year of Red and White Quilt Challenges this year.  The more events you enter this year the more chances you have to win prizes generously donated by our sponsors.

This next week we have our first virtual Red and White Quilt Show which is open to anyone that has made a quilt, of any size and any style, as well as those lucky quilters that may own an older red/white quilt made by someone else.  The entries simply need to be red/white and made prior to 2014 and those that enter are the current owners of the entries that they submit in this virtual show.

This show will be held February 3rd-9th.  For more info visit the main page for this event, as it will be updated throughout the year to contain current links to challenges and shows as they are officially released.

I had originally thought I'd share another EQ tutorial with you today, but this post was getting quite long.   Still, I'm hoping you'll leave a comment to let me know what areas of EQ software you are interested in learning more about and would like tutorials or challenges to help you learn more.  And, I'm also interested to know if you use EQ7, EQ6 or other EQ software packages.

DID I MENTION A GIVEAWAY?

Earlier in this blog hop, SewCalGal shared insights that while EQ SW comes with a large collection of fabrics, there are also a variety of ways for you to get more fabrics.  One of my favorites is the EQ STASH collections of digital fabrics.  Electric Quilt is donating a copy of their recently released EQ Stash Online downloadable 2013 -01 fabric collection which requires EQ7 software to use.

This digital fabric collection contains 1400+ fabrics from 11 of the top fabric manufacturers.  In it are a few red/white fabrics, but I think many will be excited to create using the new Downton Abbey fabrics from Andover.

If you are an EQ7 user and interested in winning a copy of the newest EQ Stash collection, simply follow the instructions to enter via the rafflecopter widge below.  The winner will be randomly selected and this giveaway is open to EQ7 users world wide, include participants in the blog hop as well as the Virtual Red/White Quilt Show for items made before 2014 that is scheduled for the week of February 3rd - 9th.

Someone has to get the party started. I just recently purchased EQ 7 but haven't used it yet so this would be a great addition, thanks for the chance to win.

I use EQ7...well I try, I'm still mastering it, but one thing I love is being able to put my fabrics into a quilt, makes it so much easier for me to visualize.

I have EQ7 and have downloaded a few from their companion boutique shop site. I have used this a little in the past; but, I am preparing to use it more fully this year once my room is completed!

Thank you for a chance to win.

I have EQ7 and have used it a bit. I really learned a lot this week, though, and can't wait to try designing a red and white quilt with Serendipity. There aren't many red fabrics in the software as is, I'd love to win some Stash! Thanks for the opportunity.

I have EQ7 and I've only used it for visualizing what fabrics to use in my quilts. I would like to learn more about the basics of designing quilts. Thanks for all of the great information that was shared this past week.

Thank you for your kind words. I have so much to learn about any area of EQ7. One day I would like to be able to draw applique shapes but for now I'll absorb anything that is going!! Thank you for the chance to enter the giveaway :-)

I use EQ7 to design quilts. I would love to learn more about exploding diagrams to use in pattern instructions. I have found my own way of doing it, but don't think it's right.

I have EQ7 with stitch. I use it for designing quilts and digitizing embroidery projects.

I love my EQ 7. I use it mainly to check out color placement for pieced quilts, and have downloaded the monthly fabrics from the website.

(This is the 3rd time I've tried to enter and leave a comment. Been having challenges with the browsers. Hope this time is the charm!)
