Sew Biz: Small Business Saturday

In my Sew Biz series, I try to share insights that can help those in the business.  And, today's insights can also help shoppers!

Every year, American Express hosts a free PR program for Small Businesses, hence the name Small Business Saturday.  Small businesses can register for free and are encouraged to do things to promote customers to shop with them on this day (e.g. a quilt shop could hosts free demonstrations, or give presentations about new products, have an author visit their shop and sign books, display a traveling trunk show, etc).

And, American Express promotes shoppers to shop with these businesses by giving you a $10 credit back on your American Express card when you make a minimum purchase of $10 with a small business that has registered.

If you are a business and wish to sign up, or you are a shopper and want more info:
https://www.americanexpress.com/us/small-business/.  But shoppers be aware that the list of registered businesses is not yet released.  More details will be posted on this site the week of Thanksgiving.

As SewCalGal feels this is a fantastic opportunity for brick-and-mortar stores, as well as on-line businesses and shoppers, I want to help increase awareness of it.  The main criteria I have spotted to participate is:

  1. Businesses need to reside within the United States
  2. Businesses and Shoppers need to use American Express credit cards
  3. As this is PR opportunity is intended to help  "small" businesses with revenue ten million dollars ($10,000,000) or less in 2012.

American Express also helps small businesses by providing free signing and other tools.  And stores can order free welcome mat and shopping bags from American Express too!

And, everyone is invited to be a "Neighborhood Champion" by going out in your community and promoting this opportunity with small businesses.  Help with the buzz to promote this event and our quilting community.  Use the hashtag #ShopSmall on Facebook and Twitter.  Let your favorite quilt shops know about this event!

Mark your calendars for some fun shopping on Saturday, November 30th.  This event is celebrated every year, the Saturday after Thanksgiving in the US.

Are you a small quilting type business that is registered for this event, or do you know of such a business that has registered?  Email SewCalGal  email address copy with the info and I'll update this page to share insights on quilt businesses that are participating in Small Business Saturday.

I have participated in previous years, but this year I am finding it more difficult locating online quilt shops that are participating. The American Express site does not make it easy to locate shops unless they are in your area or you know the specific name.
