Thank You From SewCalGal and Operation Homefront

thank you

SewCalGal and Operation Homefront want to thank everyone that bought raffle tickets for the Quilter's Christmas Party, bought items in the Quilter's Auction Fundraiser as well as the sponsors that donated prizes:

Collectively we raised ~$2,400 for Operation Homefront, and 150+ Baby Quilts were donated, along with many baskets of baby toys, baby clothing and burp cloths were also donated!

AND, we want to thank everyone that has helped.

Earlier this year, SewCalGal announced a call for 100 Baby Quilts for a Baby Shower that Operation Homefront (OH) was hosting in 29 Palms, California.  And, more baby quilts are always needed across the United States, for more Baby Showers that OH  hosts for wives of Military Enlisted (E1-E6) who deliver when their husband is off fighting in a war zone. In addition, OH will see situations where these young military families may need special assistance  and, with your support, OH helps these soldiers and their families, as appropriate.  And, sometimes, that may mean giving such a family a baby gift basket, baby quilt and/or baby toys, depending on what the need of the family is and what has been donated.

While the plan for the 29 Palms Baby Shower was for 100 young mothers to attend, the week before this event the count increased to 150!  I was worried about getting 100 quilts donated and definitely delighted when the quilters donated more than what they originally had committed to!  It certainly wouldn't be fun to have a Baby Shower and only give handmade quilts to some of the attendees.

I wish I could share photos of all of the beautiful baby quilts tht were donated, as it was like attending a "Baby Quilt Show".

Burp cloths (there were multiple bags full of super cute burp cloths)

Cuddly Toys (the toys were so cute and cuddly they made me laugh)

And, some baby quilts are given to families that come to Operation Homefront's offices for assistance.  It is fun to see the smiling faces when a young family receives a baby quilt!

Thank you to everyone that helped to make baby quilts for OH, as well as burp cloths.  I've tried to log all the names, but please email me if I haven't included yours (or you would like your name to be listed differently).  SewCalGal and Operation Homefront do appreciate all of you for helping to make the Spring Baby Shower so wonderful.  There were 150 young mothers, whose husband is off in a war zone, at this event and all were delighted to receive a beautiful handmade baby quilts thanks to you:
I also want to give a special recognition to Flying Geese Quilt Guild.  They had committed to donating ten quilts, but came thru with a donation of ~50 beautiful baby quilts and knitted baby throws, over 50 Burb Bibs, and a bag of really cute and cuddly baby toys!  Their members are from central and southern Orange County, California.

And, special thanks to Ursula Sorensen (San Diego Chapter Project Linus Chapter) and Altrusa who came thru with a donation of ~100 beautiful baby quilts.

Don't forget, across the States Operation Homefront has programs to help Military Families with special circumstances and OH needs your help to be able to do this.  They can use Baby Quilts and baby items throughout the year, as well as QOV/QOH quilts to give to wounded veterans that live in homes that OH provides for such veterans and their families, until they can recover and get back on their feet.
