Book Review and Giveaway: A Kid's Guide To Sewing, by Sophie Kerr

Looking for ways to inspire kids to learn and enjoy sewing?  How about bags, pajamas, lunch totes, simple quilts belts, etc.?  Or even better, host a kids sewing party (or class)?

SewCalGal is always looking for fun ways to inspire and teach the next generation to learn and enjoy sewing and crafting, of all forms.  And, I'm delighted to share insights with you today about a new book that is a great way to inspire and teach kids to sew.

A Kid's Guide to Sewing

A Kid's Guide to Sewing: 16 Fun Projects You'll Love To Make and Use,  by Sophie Kerr with Weeks Ringle and Bill Ker is a new book published by Fun Stitch Studio, an imprint by CT Publishing.  Fun Stitch Studio is all about the next generation and they encourage kids to "Stitch Your Art Out".

A Kid's Guide to Sewing

This book is a great resource for anyone that wants to teach kids to sew and an excellent gift idea for anyone that wants to inspire a kid to sew too!

A Kid's Guide to Sewing
Sophie, the author, is an eleven year old who began to sew when she was three years old.  In this book she shares insights on materials and tools, your sewing machine, the basics of sewing, how to deal with mistakes (not that ever happens to any of us) and more. And, there are easy to understand and follow instructions.

Kid's belt

Projects in this book are rated from beginners to advanced and range from a simple pillow, washable pet bed, cuddle fleece scarf,  hairband,  zippered pouch, sleepover bag, fancy ribbon belt, embroidered pillowcase, reversible messenger bag, backpack decorations, quilted place mats,  pool cover-up, tiered skirt, insulated lunch bag, cuddle fleece patchwork throw, simple throw, fancy multicolored throw, and even a cute zippered tote.

All of the projects come with supply lists, instructions and visuals.

You can find this book on Amazon, C&T Pubishing and many quilting and crafting stores.

This looks like a wonderful book and I love that idea of 'flip & sew' on the plush - just might use that myself. (excusing myself from the give away)

Of course I played in Fairyland, and Oz and all sorts of places when I was a child. And I still do.

She's 11?! Wow, what a talented person, she's one to watch.

LOL - I was to much of tomboy to play in Fairyland, unless it was covered in mud! I have a quilty friend whose granddaughter asked for a sewing machine for Christmas and this book would be a perfect complement.

I think my granddaughter would love this book. She is 9 and loves to sew. I need to keep her enthusiastic about sewing... someone has to inherit the stash! Looks like this book is full of fun projects that she would like.

My granddaughter is twelve and loves to sew. I help her with some of her projects, but she has done several on her own. I'm sure she would enjoy trying some of the projects in this book.

I have a friend who is teaching two young ladies to sew, so I would share this with her for ideas to use with them.

My niece Anna would enjoy this book. Her mom has been wanting to work on some sewing projects with her and it sounds as if this would have a lot of great ideas and insights into sewing with kids.

This looks like a great book. My seven year old grand wants to learn to sew. This is what I am looking for.
I'll look for in our stores or Amazon.
Thanks.

I sewed with 6 grandchildren this summer. There are several more who would like to be included this year. I let them pick their own projects but a collected, at their skill level book would be most helpful and fun. Thanks.

Although I was considered a tomboy, I loved girly things like jewelry and nail polish. Then I would hop the fence and climb a tree. lol My nephew is learning to sew with me, and I would love to give him this, so he has other projects he can work on when we can't get together. Thanks.
