Special Call for Quilts - Research Program on Brain Aging of Vietnam Vets

Bless the quilter that makes quilts to comfort and bring good cheer to others.  There are many quilters that help in a variety of ways, through a number of different charity programs.  Today, I want to share insights with you about a special Call for Quilts to be given to ~300 Vietnam Veterans that participate in a special research program.  You may also know someone that would qualify for this program and want to participate in this research effort:

The research is focused on Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) to understand the affects on aging brains of Veterans of the Vietnam War.  This research program is funded by the Department of Defence and Veterans' Administration.   This study is an extension of the groundbreaking Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) that began in 2004. There is also a brochure you can download, for more information on this research program.

Jeffree Itrich, M.S.W., M.J., a Sr. Clinical Trials Communications & Recruitment Specialist sent out a Call for Quilts, as she would like to give quilts to participants.  Specifically, they are looking for quilts, not afghans or prayer shawls  And, as most of the participants will be men, they want the quilts to not be narrower than 45" and 50" long would suffice, but they could be longer.  The thought is that a nice quilty hug would be a special way of thanking Veterans that participate in this important brain imaging study.  Ideally, quilts would be made with red, white & blue fabrics, or colors of the Viet Nam Service Ribbon (red, green and yellow).  The exact colors are in the program logo printed under the "Three Soldiers" photo, on the brochure for this program:

Participants will be enrolling at the end of this year in So. Cal., but the bulk of study sites across the nation will start enrolling vets in early 2013.  Jeffree requests that quilts be sent to her and she will distribute them to the other study sites to distribute to the veterans as they enroll in this program.  Her contact info is:
