Crazy 'Bout the Mouse? SewCalGal's EQ Challenge

For all those Electric Quilt users, of all skill levels, I'm holding this challenge.  This could be a way for some of you to build on your skills, but ultimately I'm hoping it is fun for all participants.

Let me tell you a bit about the theme.  You may be familiar with EQ the Mouse on Facebook or in the great EQ Newsletter, which he publishes.  I really get a kick out of hearing about EQ's travels, with his close friend & fellow Mouse Jean Claude.  And periodically, he'll have a fun giveaway on his Facebook page.  But I always have fun hearing what he is up to.  Many like to tease him.  And there was that one person that posted a photo of a cat eating a mouse on his wall, which he responded to very politely.  So, I decided to create a challenge in his honor.
Crazy bout EQ the Mouse

This challenge requires that you create any quilt design using EQ, but it needs to have a theme or design that you think EQ the Mouse will like.  It might have a piece of cheese, a picture of EQ the Mouse, or some fun design or fabrics that you think he'd like.  Your design can be any size.  Just post an image of your design on the Facebook page of EQ the Mouse by the end of January. Come February lst a winner will be selected.

The winner will receive 100 charm squares cut with the AccuQuilt GO!   And there may be a few extra items included too, as I'll be attending the Road to California Quilt Show and the CHA Winter Trade Show during this window, and I do so love to shop with a purpose.   {I'll update this post with a photo as soon as I finish cutting them}.

This could also be a fun opportunity for you to pull out your EQ6 Applique' Drawing book, or if you don't yet have a copy, you might want to order a copy before they are out of print.  They are currently 50% off when you order online from EQ.  But, to clarify, there isn't a requirement that your design is an applique design.

{above} This was my a little quilt that I designed for EQ the Mouse last year.  Very simple, but I sure had fun with EQ while creating it.

The Electric Quilt site also has a large number of free online lessons that a great way to learn EQ too.

And Quilt University has a EQ6 Advanced Layout class that starts January 21st and an EQ Sampler Class that starts January 28th, both taught by the talented Fran Gonzales and are excellent ways to learn more about EQ.

Just remember the deadline for this challenge is Monday, January 31st and you need to have your quilt design image posted on the Facebook page for EQ the Mouse by midnight PST to be eligible to win.  Winner will be announced sometime on Tuesday, February lst on his Facebook page.  And feel free to pop on over to his facebook page and to say hello to him and/or let him know you are entering this challenge and going to make a quilt design for him.

I'm far from being an expert, but if you need help to get going, email me and I'll try to help or point you in the direction of someone who can.

No facebook but I did get EQ7 for Christmas but have not installed it yet. I think I will take advantage of the sites you point out and learn how to use the darn thing.

Happy Sewing

Sounds like fun and I do need to learn more with it. I'll see if I can squeeze in some time on the calendar. Thanks.

I'm sitting here thinking how silly I am. I have had EQ for quite some time and NEVER loaded it, never learned it - never even looked at the manual.

But, first thing's first - Saturday is my first DPV6 class...strictly the basics to start out with. And even thought I've had the software since Day one, always upgrading and using it, I've never utilized it to its full potential so I'm really looking forward to many classes.
