40 Bright & Bold Paper-Pieced Blocks: 12-Inch Designs from Carol Doak, published by Martingale/That Patchwork Place in 2002. SewCalGal sees this as a great book to help quilters making perfectly pieced blocks with stunning designs that you can use to make a variety of projects (e.g. quilts, table toppers, purses, etc.). The possibilities are endless.
There are 40 12-inch block designs that come with a color image of the block and templates for foundation piecing. You'll also find a great section on how to do foundation piecing, as well as many other quilting tips. And there are 8 quilt patterns included, that are made with blocks in this book.
Carol Doak is a best-selling author, teacher and lecturer and an award-winning quilt maker. SewCalGal can easily see why this book is out of print and for those lucky enough to snag a copy for their quilt library will certainly enjoy it!
This looks like a great book to add to my library. I am not a big fan of paper piecing with it's with the tiny tiny blocks, but 12 inch blocks sound more manageable. Will have to look for her book.
ReplyDeleteI am not a fan of paper piecing but I do love how it turns out.
ReplyDeleteOMG -- I HAVE this book! I think I bought it way back when I could barely sew a straight line, got intimidated, and put it away. I need to pull it out again; I've been admiring a lot of paper pieced quilting online lately and maybe I'm ready to try it myself now. Thanks for reminding me about this book!
ReplyDeleteI love when a company makes e-books available....space is at a premium in my sewing area, so having the ability to view a book on my PC appeals to me. Paper piecing, however, has not been kind to me - or shall I say that I have not been kind to it? LOL I've heard, tho, that Carol is an awesome instructor, so maybe there is hope for me, especially with larger blocks!
ReplyDeleteI haven't done any paper piecing in a long time & always enjoyed seeing the end results. Carol is the "Queen" for sure. Yes..Martingale needs to re-print or produce an e copy. Lots of new quilters out there in cyberland! They could do that for a lot of their books...
