For the past few months, I've been researching Pinterest and chatting with "those in the business" (e.g. designers, teachers, quilt store owners, etc). I've solicited feedback via Facebook, Twitter, my blog, email, and chatting directly. For the most part, I've found many that enjoy using Pinterest, those that fully support having their sites "Pinned", a few that acknowledge they don't have an opinion as they don't have enough insight, and what actually turns out to be a small, but vocal group, that has concerns about Pinterest, which I tried to address in my prior post on Pinterest.
But, as mentioned above, today is all about recognizing those that do use Pinterest. Here is a list of a few of those "in the business", that use Pinterest, and caught my attention:

ReplyDeleteWhat a great post! I DO use Pinterest and find so many cool things on there. I'm careful to make sure (most of the time) that my pins are approved by the author. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Darlene...yes, I am on Pinterest also; but not very much...I just don't seem to have the time lately to endulge like I would like. But will check it out a little more with this help..thanks.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness! Your post just sent me down a Pinterest rabbit hole that lasted well over an hour, and that was just checking out Bari J's pins. In the interest of getting out of my pj's, I just had to stop!
ReplyDeleteJane that is the main reason why I do not join Pinterest - I am on the computer enough :) one more thing and I would never get out of the house. I have looked briefly - just long enough to know that I would be on the computer hours more a day than I am now and never get any of these wonderful ideas made.

Great post, I am now following a lot of talented ladies, but I am curious how you get the 'pin it' button to appear under your post??
ReplyDeleteI love pinterest! I do set a timer, though -- it really can become a black hole, sucking you in, if you aren't disciplined! LOL! :)
ReplyDeleteI wrote a comment about 3 hours ago but it doesn't show up. Don't know what I did wrong, but I'll just try again '-)
ReplyDeleteI love Pinterest, it's so helpful to save patterns and tutorials. They are a lt easier to find then in the 'favorites' of my PC, because of the pictures.
When people don't want to be pinned on Pinterest, they can block it.
Of course there'll always be people who 'snek' around it, like they do when downloading a picture from a site is blocked, but most people will respect it.
Info is on Pinterest:

all the way down, ' what if I don't want images from my site to be pinned?'
Thanks for all the links you posted, that'll keep me off the streets for a while LOL
Dutch hugs
Sorry, send you the wrong link, this one is better

Let's just say it's an age-thing LOL
I don't have a Pinterest account because of the reasons stated above by people such as Karen @ Quilts, etc. I do wander that direction if I am looking what's "hot"/new in recipes that are going around. I do agree, though, with all the "positives" about the site (ability to 'pin' info that would otherwise end up on my pc). All in moderation, but....where does the time go after I log in???????
ReplyDeleteI do want to encourage others to read my prior post (http://sewcalgal.blogspot.com/2012/06/pinterest-for-quilting-sewing.html) as it does address many of your comments, as well as provide the code to block a site from being pinned.
ReplyDeleteA tip to minimize time on Pinterest, is to use it as an organizational tool. For those that want to go look for inspirational ideas, to reduce the risk of getting caught up with beauty & inspiration, use the search feature. I like to get in/out quickly, thus I use the search feature to find ideas on what I'm looking for (e.g. Patriotic quilts, free-motion quilting, recipes, etc.).
And, when you pin, remember to add description/source on the comments. This helps with the search in Pinterest, as well as internet searches also use the comments in Pinterest.

Thanks!! I joined pinterest a few months ago but it just linked up to my facebook friends, non of whom quilt. I've been having a hard time finding quilters to follow. This is a huge help!
ReplyDeleteI like Denise's idea about setting a timer for Pinterest -- ditto for Facebook, blog reading, and other "rabbit holes" of delicious distraction!
ReplyDeleteBefore Pinterest, I printed out everything, stuck the pictures in drawers or bulletin boards... Then IF I ever got back to the pictures I often couldn't remember why I tore them out, or if it was a project idea, where I had gotten it. With Pinterest, I have folders, nothing to print, and everything links back to the source. I have one folder just for color inspiration, with a lot of pictures from nature or even home decorating magazines, to give me ideas for quilting.
I agree with Rebecca Grace. It does help me organize stuff that I want to find again. It is also fun to share with my DILs at THEIR leisure.
ReplyDeleteI, personally, was thrilled to find Pins of me!
It's a wonderful thing. It has replaced my bookmarks.
ReplyDeleteI had Pinterest when everyone started using it, then closed my account after all the controversy started. Then I read the post you wrote a while back and decided to re-activate my account. I really missed having it!! So, I'm glad I'm pinning again. Thanks for all you share with us. I really appreciate it!!
