I hope you enjoy this bog hop, where you'll find insights about this wonderful new book, that SewCalGal recommends as a "must have" book. SewCalGal has certainly loves this new book, as well as all things "neutral"...thanks to Pat Wys.
Pat's new book has 12 spectacular designs, each with easy to follow instructions and great visuals. Project sizes range from a 21" 1/2" x 106" 1/2" table runner, a 36" x 18" pillow to a 85" x 103" quilt.
While all of the designs are such that they'd work great in many color palettes, Pat certainly inspires you to create with neutral fabrics. There is a special chapter where she shares insights on Value. And, with every design Pat provides easy to follow instructions for selecting the right yardage and values (medium, darks, lights) to be able to make your own version of the spectacular designs shared in this book.
I've always thought I was a color challenged quilter, but this book helped me realize I had just overlooked the understanding of "values". I'm now convinced that many of us could pull fabrics from our stash or buy fabrics, with the insights Pat shares in this book, to make spectacular quilts or even cute pillows!
But as I love shopping, I did go out and search several online quilting sites, as well as physical stores, to see what they had for fabric "bundles" as well as yardage using designs from this wonderful new book. The exercise made me realize how I (and others) have been so caught up in brights, batiks and what I think of as vibrant prints. While I still love bright colors, there is something very soothing in Pat's approach to neutrals. But, I think many quilt shops (including online stores) could benefit from creating more fabric bundles of neutrals, even bundles that include a copy of "Knockout Neutrals". While I've loved brights for many years, something tells me soothing neutrals will be what the fabric choices for quilters that want to make projects that will be treasured through many generations.
Neutrals are welcoming, they are enduring, they are beautiful. And, they are colors that last for generations. So, why is it I found difficulty finding pre-cut fabric bundles for neutrals? Hint - this is an opportunity for quilt stores to create some spectacular fabric bundles of neutrals using insights that Pat shares in this new book. Even better, create some kits and bundle with this new book! After all, who wouldn't want to create projecs using designs shared in this book with "Pat Wys" approved fabric bundles.....and matching threads too! I'd be one of the first to sign up to order such fabric bundles and ideally neutral thread bundles too!
But, I'm not worried if quilt shops are not currently bundling fabrics to work with quilter that want to create quilts with neutral colors. Pat shares insights in her book that will help you fnd fabrics in your stash,or local quilt shop or favorite fabric shop. And she shares insights on yardage requirements that you'll need for all of her project. SewCalGal just seens an opportunity for quilt shops to bundle neutral fabrics that could also be useful for creating the wonderful projects in this book, as well as many other projects. After all, don't we all deserve a neutral environment where we can relax and enjoy ?

I love the look of neutral - especially beige/cream - quilts. I've been collecting fabrics for White Chocolate from Pat's first book and am planning to start on it early 2014.
I work with a lot of neutrals, but sure could use a lesson in value! This book sounds amazing and I love the quilts from it that you have chosen to feature here! Thanks.
I have always love neutrals. Thanks so much for the chance to win this amazing prize.
This book is right up my alley. I have always been a neutral fan. I can not get out of a QS without buying some yardage of neutrals. I love to scrappy quilt and you always have a need.
Thanks for a chance.
I have been following Pat for years and totally admire her work. Thank you so much for the chance.
Her neutral quilts are beautiful. Would love to win this book and sew my own neutral quilt.
I wish they offered neutral bundles - you have to hunt and peck for them and then hope the shades work once you have it all. There is something very soothing to a neutral quilt.
This book looks fantastic!
I have not been using a lot of neutrals in my quilts, just because my stash has a more colorful expression. But, I can see the beauty of a more subtle design with calm, neutral colors. When I have acquired enough neutrals, a quilt using these colors will be on top of the list!
I've been trying to collect enough neutrals to make a quilt for a couple of years, but it's really not easy as you say.
I think neutral quilts can look very elegant and would make great wedding gifts since they can go with anything. I haven't made one yet, but I plan to eventually.
I would love to try working with neutrals. I have some that I've been picking up here and there. I know I don't have near enough of them to do anything with. This book looks wonderful and I would love to have it. Thanks
It is funny - when I am using fibre for crochet, weaving etc, I like to use colours which knock your eyes out, but when I am patchworking I automatically reach for a neutral background. I like the look of it, it makes me feel comfortable, it blends in with any other colour I choose and helps to make any pattern stand out. I thought I was old fashioned, as I was not using bright, sparkling colours in my work, but looking at the patterns shown on this page, just makes me feel like I have found someone who empathises. It looks a wonderful book.
Most of my quilts are done with bright colors. But, Pat has helped me expand my horizons with a new look at neutrals.
Thanks for giving us a chance to win her book.

Thanks for giving us a chance to win her book.
Choosing fabrics for a project has always been a challenge for me. I usually just end up just copying the pattern fabrics as best I can. The photos I've seen so far from this book are beautiful! I especially love the cover quilt and the table runner.
I have never made a neutral quilt. So I have no insights there. I do know the importance of value, having taken several art classes. In fact, I blogged about value just last week.
I also know that Pat Wys is a wonderful teacher. She has great designs and a real passion for quilting.
I love the look of these neutrals!!
When I first started quilting....30 years ago; I know!!!! lol..I used only solids because they were more affordable. And I do love the softness of the neutrals.
Two of my favorite quilts were sewn with neutrals, including the one on the cover of Pat's first book. I am looking forward to this new book and learn more from Pat about how to put neutral fabrics together for beautiful quilts!
I will be knocked out if I win this giveaway! Thanks!
I saw a photo of this book yesterday and thought to myself "wow, that cover quilt's gorgeous" - love all the other pics you showed! I've done just a couple of neutral quilts, and those were for others - I think one needs to be in my immediate future!
Thanks for the opportunity.
Wild about neutrals, so calm and soothing and comforting to wrap up in. Restful on the eyes and yet beautiful, will have to make at least one of those quilts. Question is, which one? a nice dilemma.
I love busy neutrals as a background and the subtle shades she uses with the background are wonderful!
I made a neutral quilt about 4 years ago but gave it away as a gift, I've wanted to make another ever since, and this book and fabrics would be a good starting point.
I haven't made anything with neutrals, but I love the pillow and table runner. So happy she have's the fabric for sale. Thanks for the chance at the giveaway.
The examples are beautiful, soothing. When you only use bright colors it's like shouting all the time. The neutrals are a gentle whisper. When you combine them as Pat Wys did they are interesting too.
I haven't done a lot with neutrals but want to make a quilt for my husband and think he would really appreciate one like this. Thanks for a great giveaway too.

Lovely quilts -- everyone of them! Just like the author!
I love all of Pat's neutral quilts and hope to make one, but I am really intimidated by choosing fabrics and the placement of the fabrics. But...I'm going to do it one of these days! Lol!
I love the quilt on the cover! Would love to win this giveaway!
My first neutral quilt was made almost two years ago. I didn't know this was a new thing, so I called it my "quiet" quilt. The book looks wonderful!
Those are gorgeous quilts. I would love to learn to work with neutrals to make quilts for the men in my life.
The quilts are beautiful. What a lovely book.
When I look at quilts I always take a close look at the backgroung fabrics. I love a variety of neutrals, not just one background color. I would like to make a neutral quilt one day, so I could benefit from the lessons in it.
I love neutral quilts, especially with some applique thrown in.
I just finished a low volume plus quilt, but had to go out and get a lot of neutrals because I didn't own any. Clearly I need to fix that stat!
Would love to learn more about working with neutrals. This books sounds like just what I need!
I love the calm I get from working in neutrals and using subtle differences in hue and value to make a quilt. Thank you for the giveaway.
I have always loved the neutral quilts. I would love to make one someday.
Another wonderful book!!
I have been looking at this book and I absolutely love every thing about it. Those neutrals are beautiful. Thanks for sharing
I think I need to open my eyes to neutrals. I love the appliqued nutral flowers designs..Wow ...all that from neutrals . Who would have ever thought!

I have never made a neutral quilt, but after seeing Pat's beautiful neutral quilts, I would love to give it a try! Thanks for the chance to win a copy of her book!
Would love to have this book in my library. Thanks for the giveaway chance!
Neutrals are fun. My current quilt uses them as a contrast for the other fabrics.
I think neutrals are stunning! I love that they will blend in with most homes. I have made a couple of black and white quilts as gifts, and they are always a hit. Thanks so much for the giveaway. Pat's book looks awesome!
I just recently decided to make my husband a neutral lap quilt of his very own! What a kawinkydink!
I love the look of quilts made in neutrals but it is not something I know a lot about picking fabrics for. It sounds like this book may be a huge help in that area.
What an awesome giveaway. I would love to make something neutral.
My daughter is a neutral kind of gal so I made a few quilts using neutrals to go with her decor. I enjoy working with neutrals. They are so soothing.
My daughter is a neutral kind of gal so I made a few quilts using neutrals to go with her decor. I enjoy working with neutrals. They are so soothing.
I have never made a "neutral" quilt but have drooled over Pat's previous book and this one looks like a winner too!
I use neutrals all the time. Bonnie Hunter's scrap patterns almost always have neutrals used. It's so neat to see how they set off other colors, but even better a totally neutral quilt looks so CHIC!
Pat spoke at my local quilt store recently. Her beautiful quilts have inspired me to start a "neutrals" project. Looking forward focusing on value and expecting to learn lots!
oh what a wonderful book to add to the library! I've got a scrappy star done in neutrals with red and brown and I love the colour combo.
Love this book! Now to find time to get more sewing done! K
I made a neutral wallhanging last year; the colours are so calming.
The patterns in this book look great.I see so many that I want to make. Thanks for the chance
I love the look of the neutrals! How wonderful!
I love neutrals! Use a lot, stash a lot. I mainly buy my fabric online, and sometimes the photo isn't showing the right color. Hence a lot ends up in the stash, but hey, you always need neutrals :-)
You can never have enough neutrals so always grab them when you can!
very pretty! and thanks for the link to the free motion craftsy classes on facebook. I will definitely be checking them out!
Haven't made neutral quilts, they look very interesting and pretty. Would love to try to make them. This giveaway would help me get started.

Neutrals ... they are so soothing ... I would love to be able to duplicate that feeling and it sounds like Pat's latest book gives much help and info on achieving a beautiful "neutral" project!
My experience with neutrals is only as a background to pop other colors. I would like to learn more about value to use them more effectively.
I'm actually working on a throw size quilt right now that uses almost half in neutrals. I'm so excited to see how it turns out!
I would love to learn more about value. It has always been a stumbling block of mine. I'd love to learn by making one of Pat's quilt patterns.
I would love to learn more about neutrals. It seems when I put them together they look dull and these quilts definitely do not look dull.
Thanks for the chance to win
Shawn
Some of my favorite quilts that I've marked in magazines have had amazing backgrounds - especially neutrals that are interesting, but not distracting from the overall pattern. Thanks for the chance.
Neutrals are so versatile! Thanks for the giveaway!
As my hero, Pat Campbell, used to say: fuchsia is my neutral. But these are lovely, and I'd love to make a neutral, really neutral, quilt like one of these lovelies, for something different!
neutrals are my favorite color, lol, really i am working on one right now, there are so many great non color colors.
HI,THANKS FOR A WONDERFUL GIVEAWAY!
I LOVE 'NEUTRALS' FOR BOYS+MEN ESPECIALLY! PLUS I'VE ALWAYS BEEN PARTIAL TO BLACK+WHITES.
msstitcher1948@yahoo.com
Such beautiful quilts and the book looks wonderful! I'm still pretty new to quilting and have not yet made anything just using neutrals but that's going to change, lol. Great giveaway, Thank You!
missmoozie(at)gmail(dot)com
Looks like a great book! Thanks so much for the chance to win! I am currently working on a neutral hexie quilt. My first neutral quilt was made 5 or 6 years ago for my DIL - her color choice. I wasn't sure at first, but it was beautiful! This was before neutrals were "cool"! o:)
Great post, SewCalGal! Why do most of us tend to gravitate toward the brights, when neutrals are equally as interesting? I've noticed a lot of Japanese quilts have used neutrals (taupe, etc.) beautifully. I can't wait to see this new book and make some quilts in neutrals!
I always thought that neutrals were underrated - I'm glad they're becoming more popular!
Would love to place it next to Pat's 1st book on neutrals. Thanks for the review and for the giveaway.
The projects in Pat's books speak to me. Thanks for the review and opportunity to win the fab giveaway!
I love neutrals and working with them in quilts I have made a couple and I have a friend that made a dazzling neutral sampler with many different size blocks, I have a collection of neutrals that is in 2 cupboards full but you can never have too many that is for sure!
I really love neutral quilts ... so soothing and relaxing!
I could also use a class on values..
I have not made a quilt yet using neutrals but after seeing pictures of how beautiful they can be I am very interested in making one.
After seeing Pat's first book, I have really come to appreciate neutral quilts. They can be used with any color scheme so that makes them timeless.
I always tend to buy color, but really need to stock up on neutrals, a great giveaway, thank you.
Love natural colours - it gives me relaxing and a good viue to my eays.
Would love this book :-)
Wish you a creative and great day.
I bought Pat's first book and loved it....this one looks even better. One of these neutral quilts is definitely on my to do list very soon. Thanks

Hugs from Spain-
I have tried to make a simple quilt of just 2 colors or just neutrals.. I just get carried away.. LOL
I've just started quilting but I would love to work on a project with neutrals!
I could not agree with you more. I wish there were more neutral bundles because I have so few that I could not pull from my stash per se. I love Pat's patterns and her book. She has a great way of explaining things.
Smiles,
Kelly

I world love to win this give away, cause neutrals are a challenge for me to use. I have usually usedvanlig strong colours, but have just started to use neutrals. So I cross my fingers!
i have been wanting to make a neutral quilt for awhile. I have Pat's first book and this one will be just as good, I am sure.

Thanks for the opportunity
I love the neutral quilts. They are so soothing. Thanks so much for sharing
I've had neutral quilts designed in my head for years, but have never made one. Perhaps now is the time to finally make one! Thanks for the chance.
I'd love to win! I never have any neutrals when I need them!
I've been collecting neutrals for a while now as I find them restful and appealing. But I have trouble with value. I've tried the black and white photos etc, but still lack confidence. Maybe this book might help!
I love the simple elegance of these quilts. I definitely want to make one for myself. Thanks for the chance to win.
I've been building up my stash of neutrals ever since I ran across a shop with Japanese neutrals. They were so beautiful I just had to buy a few fat quarters. Then I found some fat eighths in civil war repro fabrics that I just had to have, and now I'm always looking to add to that part of the stash. I haven't used any of them yet, though, I've been looking for some pattern inspiration. This book looks like just the thing. And a little more fabric couldn't hurt, either. So thank you so much for a chance to win!
I've just started adding some neutrals after seeing so many gorgeous low volume quilts being made. I never need an excuse to increase my stash!
Wonderful giveaway! My mom made a neutral quilt for a sister and it blew my socks off. It is absolutely gorgeous so much that I'd love to make one sometime too. Jane
I haven't really worked with neutrals before. But seeing all these gorgeous projects makes me want to start!
Never made a neutrals quilt - but I've not really 'experienced'. I agree that the projects have a timelessness to them. Love that table runner.
Love that bed quilt pictured! Thanks for your review and the chance to win.
I made Haven Stone from Pat's first book "Spotlight on Neutrals". It is one of my most commented-on quilts! I just recently made another neutral quilt, and it too have received many positive comments. Neutrals and values play a HUGE role in your quilts.
I love the neutral look. I am actually seeing more neutral fabric bundles in shops lately - wonderful!
I love any opportunity to experiment with different colors. Thanks for the opportunity!
I haven't made a neutral quilt yet, but it is on my lists! I did recently work on a quilt using only solids with black as the background and learned a lot about value there!
Sandy A
The great thing about neutrals is that they go with everything. I was first attracted to them when I say Alex Anderson use them in a star quilt she made many, many years ago. What a great addition Pat's book would make to anyone's library!
Oh... I would love to win! I am using neutral in my current project and love the result!
I have never made a natural quilt but seeing Pat's projects makes me want to start one.
Thanks for opportunity!
Neutrals are mt favorite colorway!
I have two charm packs of batik neutrals I plan to use as the background for an appliqué quilt. But maybe Pats book would tempt me with another design.
Closest to neutral I've got is with charcoal
I've had a neutral or low volume quilt on my mind, but lack enough fabric yet. I like neutrals in decorating because they are so versatile and soothing.
Pat has really show some perfect examples of using neutral colors. Love the table runner and the quilt. I want to use more neutrals in some projects, I guess it seems harder to choose, even though it should seem easier to choose as opposed to colors. Would love to win and start creating more neutral projects. Thanks for the chance.
The timing of your post is astounding to me--two nights ago I dreamed about making a neutral quilt, and for the last couple of days I've been trying to recreate it with graph paper. Pulling neutrals from my stash has shown me that I need more of them!
Thank you for the chance to win such a Yummy Prize.
I struggle to have enough Neutrals, well probably more Low Volume really.
I am collecting Black and whites at the moment, but till I saw one of the Quilts in Pats book, I didn't think of them as a Neutral really, but they do go with anything, I just have to learn to Jazz up my Thinking and then create it. lol
Cheers, Cindy. :)
Thank you for a great give away! I want to make low volume quilt and still get only bright colour fabrics! This book would be fantastic to make it finally! x Teje

After working so long with brights, neutrals sound like a nice change of pace. -- soparkaveataoldotcom
What impresses me most about these photos is that while they may be neutrals they are knockouts! Often neutrals mean pastel versions: gray, tan, beige, off white, etc. Most of these quilts aren't shy, they're bold! Dark gray, black, golden browns, dark browns, that impresses me.
I have never used neutrals as main color but as complement.
Now I'm thinking on a queen size quilt for my bed and it could be nice making it in neutrals...
A neutral quilt would be just the thing to make for our master bedroom. I love the second quilt you've pictured! So soft!
I've been collecting neutral fabrics for a while now to make a really scrappy neutral quilt - would love to win this new book - it's about time I made my neutral quilt. Thanks.

I love neutrals. I must. That shelve in my fabric cabinet is the one that I need to keep replenishing.
SewCalGal... I just love your review! Awesome images and insight to tips within the book. Thank you! I work wit ph the bright colors for when making something for my granddaughters, but stick to the warm colors for my own quilts. Love Pats Neutrals... And I Must make that pillow!
I love the look of the neutral quilts in this book. Thanks for the review and the opportunity to win.
I always gravitate toward color, but when I saw her book, I was intrigued. It would be a step outside my comfort zone, and I'd love to make a neutral quilt for its calming effect for an ill friend.
I love neutrals...this book would help me to learn how to select fabric and match when not already bundled. I have to make the Back Porch Pillow!! I is destined to sit on my bed. crystalbluern at onlineok dot com
I've never made a quilt with all neutral colors, but I do find myself using more neutrals as a counterpoint to color. It's quite a change from. My usual color saturated style!
The look of the projects from this book are so calming and beautiful....I would make the pillow first....quickly followed by that beautiful table runner!! Thank you for the chance to win!
I like using neutrals and seem to be always running low in my stash.
I'm still relatively new to quilting and at first I thought it had to all be color. I love color. But I have been making table runners for Christmas and have been finding that neutrals are really making the colors pop. Would love to win this book to learn more. Thanks for a chance.
My Hubby was born neutral. He is MR. BEIGE! I need this win to make him his favorite quilt!

I haven't sewn a neutral quilt as of yet but am looking forward to doing so since I love the look of taupe's, cream, beige, brown, and the lovely neutrals.
This is definitely inspiring. I need to make a quilt with just neutrals. Although I've used neutrals, they are usually mixed with blues or other colors. I would love to see a photo of the FQ bundle for the prize! Thanks.
so cool. I love neutrals, they are easy to work with and you don't have to worry about clashing. I love using tans and creams because the go with everything
I've been collecting neutrals for quilts for some time (and a bunch of cream/tan/browns and another stack of greys/blacks--would love ideas on which quilts to make! I am doing a twisted log cabin in greys and blacks (with burgundy centers) with Quilt in a Day's new ruler. Too much fun!
Love the book. I need to make something more neutral. I love to sew for fun.
I've never made a quilt (or anything else) from neutrals. I saw quilts from this book somewhere online and was simply astonished at how elegant and striking they were. I decided I need this book! I have a not bad stash of neutrals as I use them with my jewel tones, brights and batiks. IT just NEVER occurred to me to make a whole quilt with neutrals until I saw this book.
Wonderful book!
I've been trending toward neutrals, although I thought it was called negative space. I've done several black and white quilts and a Broken Irish chain, background tan with 2" squares or color. One of my favorites, it is now my grandsons. I love the look and I think they are so restfull. Thanks.
I keep seeing this book, and I agree it is a "must have"! I haven't made a quilt in all neutrals, but I do have some black, white, cream, and taupe fabrics, and I do want to make one. Thank your for the chance to win this wonderful giveaway!

Just LOVE Pat's stuff..Snowbound is definitely on my short list. Guess It'd have to say I like most anything..scrappy, colorful, neutral. It's ALL good!
I did one wallhanging with neutrals and I found it very freeing not to have to worry about colours.
I really love using neutrals as pieced backgrounds for appliqué. This book looks great, thanks for the giveaway :)
Neutrals are like comfort food: not fancy at a distance but soothing up close. While I often use neutrals in my quiltsI've never made an entire quilt top with these colors.
Thanks for the give away!
I wouldn't be able to decide which to make first! Love this book even more than Pat's first and that one was fantastic!
I have used neutrals as a background fabric but I'm more inspired to make a fully neutral quilt

Oh gosh! I'm full of "ooo's and ahhh's"! These projects ate so beautiful! I love that grays and blacks have been included in neutrals. I did a $5 BOM last year at my LQS that was all neutrals. Our colors were from light beige to dark brown. The quilt is so pretty. I'm so inspired and this book is at the top of my wishlist.
Thank you and Pat for a super generous giveaway and a chance to win.

I haven't used neutrals much, but it's on my "to do" list. Thanks for the chance!
I haven't done any neutral quilts - I use them as backgrounds. But I really like that table runner! I might be converted, lol.
This book sounds fascinating. Would love to own it and do that beautiful table runner and pillow
I love neutrals. It is hard for me to go with brights. I am just and earthy tone kinda girl! I would love this book thanks!!
I've been saving some neutrals for a special quilt for my son for quite a while now. He would love Road Trip!!! Thanks for joining the blog hop and offering the giveaway :*)
Oh my gosh, what a lot of comments. This is probably the first book that has excited me in a while. I will look for it.
I have been building my neutral stash (stashes) for sometime now, just waiting for the perfect time to do something. This book will make that all possible. Thanks for a chance to win. I have plans now!
I can tell right now, I need more neutrals in my stash. Thanks for the chance.
Nice review, thanks! Good to know to that Pat offers insights in this book of where to find neutrals. In the past, I have used the wrong side of fabrics to tone it down, but would love to be able to get some better neutrals. I'll definitely be checking this out.

I am eager to try a black, white and grey table runner -- seems like that would be a perfect fit for an urban apartment!
Pat's book is full of inspiration - the quilts and pillows are beautiful. I love her use of light, medium and dark fabrics.
Currently I'm making a value quilt using rainbow colors -
I'd love to try some of these designs using neutrals!
It would be wonderful to win so I could try my hand at making a beautiful project like Pat has done.
I love mixing up the neutrals in my scrappy quilts, a technique I learned from Bonnie Hunter. Scrap quilts just sparkle if you add different neutrals as the background of your blocks. this book looks fabulous!
I have never created a quilt just with neutrals. I tend to use them as a "break" from the blocks or the within the block pattern.
I haven't made a full-neutral quilt, but I do love to mix neutral prints in many of my quilts and backgrounds.
Pat's new designs prove that neutrals are NOT boring!
Thanks for the chance to win!
I must make Arboretum. I must, I must!
I am a bright, batik girl but I think I am starting to include neutrals!
Neutrals can be matched with any print...that's the beauty of neutrals. Thanks for the gorgeous giveaway.
