Hugs - Do You Need A Quilty Hug Or Know Someone That Does?

I am sending a sincere virtual hug and positive thoughts out to each of you that need a good quilty hug.

Hugs are important and come in many ways.  Some are warm and embracing, some come through a thoughtful card in the mail (or email).  Some come by way of a quilt, pillowcase, or other handmade item.

There have been many traumatic events this past year, the most recent in Newtown, Connecticut.

I'm fearful of being able to accurately reflect all the worldwide tragedies that have happened this past year from hurricanes (e.g. Sandy, etc.), fires, floods, snipers, earthquakes and other heartbreaking situations.  On a positive side, many quilting, sewing and embroidery enthusiasts from around the world frequently reach out and try to find ways to help, through their love of stitching and helping others.

If you are affiliated with such a program, please leave a comment on this post to share insights.  But, please be specific to share a summary of your project, a call for action, website info, contact info, etc.

Here are a few insights that I currently can share:

  • Jackie (Canton Village Quiltworks) is organizing a Pillowcase Drive for Children in Sandy Hook, Connecticut
  • Call for Snowflakes, by the PTA for the school in Sandy Hook.  Snowflakes are wanted to decorate the school, for when the kids return in January.  These can be paper, fabric, machine embroidery, mixed-media arts, etc.  For those with a fabric die cutter snowflake this is a great time to make some snowflakes.  EmbLibrary is also giving a free machine embroidery snowflake design away to encourage those with ME machines to help make snowflakes.
Please make and send snowflakes by January 12, 2013 to the Connecticut PTSA address
Connecticut PTSA
60 Connolly Parkway
Building 12, Suite 103
Hamden, CT 06514

Is their still a need to help flood victims in Australia?  Fire Victims in the mid-West?  What about other programs that may need attention?

I also want to thank everyone that helped with the Quilter's Christmas Party and Fundraiser to benefit Operation Homefront.  I've also made a personal commitment to host a charity Holiday Party in 2013, that will be a blog hop/charity fundraiser.  Participating blogs will be able to help raise funds and increase awareness of their favorite charity.  If you are interested in blocking space for this 2013 Holiday event, please email me.

Sending hugs! and I will try to contribute to some of these causes. I think the snowflakes and Hurricane Sandy are things that I can definitely do.

Tho I'm struggling with problems in my own life, they surely seem small in comparison to what is happening and has happened in our world. Thanks for a wonderful post, SewCalGal. I think we can all use a hug -- and it makes us feel good to give others the hugs they need.... :)

thanks for reminding me about the snowflake die for the Accuquilt Go. Haven't used it yet and this is a great time to try it out! I'm thinking fuse two fabrics together and then cut them out. Can't get much easier than that now can it?

I want to always believe there is more good and good people in the world than bad and evil, I have been blessed with that experience in my life and pray it continues. I did make some blocks and sent them to help make a bigger quilt for charity.
Beth at Live love laugh is always making wonderful quilts for charity.
Last year we made blocks for the local veterans home in her neighborhood, Beth made them into quilts and hand delivered them.
really admire all she does for others!

Happy Sewing and Merry Christmas
