For those that do free-motion quilting on a home sewing machine, our hands can get sore while trying to move our project around the needle. Today I want to share insights with you on the "Grip & Stitch Quilting Disks".
The Grip & Stitch Disks come in a pair of disks where the larger disk goes in your left hand, and the smaller disk in your right hand.
You simply place them onto your quilt and "rest" your hands on top of them, with the black side facing your quilt. Lightly pressing these disks you move your project under the presser foot to stitch out your free-motion quilting design.
These disks do a great job gripping your quilt, yet allowing your hands to relax. And, during hot weather, those concerned about wearing gloves will most likely enjoy the benefits of using these disks.
I've used a variety of tools that are designed to help you do free-motion quilting. SewCalGal can honestly say the Grip & Stitch disks are easy to use and allow your hands to relax, as well as stay cool on a hot summer day!
You can find this product online at Clever Craft Tools, the Fat Quarter Shop and there is a good chance you can find them at your local quilt shop too. If not, just let your local quilt shop know you'd like to see them in stock and they can order wholesale from Clever Craft Tools or from Brewer Sewing.
The retail price for Grip & Stitch is $29.95
You may also be interested in knowing that Clever Craft Tools donates a portion of proceeds, from the sale of Grip & Stitch, to a WA charitable non-profit organization that makes quilts for American Heroes and Camp Korey.
SewCalGal wants to disclose that she was contacted to evaluate the Grip & Stitch Quilting Disks and they also offered to donate a set of these disks as a giveaway. At the same time, SewCalGal reserved the right to voice her own opinion, as shared in this review. This product was used for over a month, extensively, while doing free-motion quilting on a couple of projects, on a domestic sewing machine. The experience was quite positive!
Did I mention a giveaway?
Thanks to Clever Craft Tools for sponsoring the giveaway this week, for followers of SewCalGal. One lucky winner will win their own pair of Grip & Stitch Quilting Disks. To enter to win, simply be a Public Follower of SewCalGal and leave a comment to let me know you are interested in winning a package of Grip & Stitch Quilting Disks.

I'm also happy to announce the winner of the Fun Friday Giveaway, from last week, sponsored by Hoffman Fabrics, for a yummy Sushi Fabric Bundle. Congratulations to Wendy (Ivory Spring).

those are pretty cool. I wear garden gloves and they do get hot in the summer. thanks for a chance.
I am a public follower.
I would love to try these. I use gloves for most large projects, and recently started using sponges for smaller ones. I am a follower too. Thanks.
Sou seguidora do GFC .E não tenho blog, isso vale?
Looks like a great tool for machine quilting!
I am a follower of your blog and would love to be able to try Grip and Stitch. Thanks for the review and chance to win.
I would love to try these! Thanks for the chance to win.
This looks like a wonderful idea. I wear a compression glove and sleeve because of lymphadema. I would need to buy 2 sets of gloves to accommodate my different hand sizes. This would be much easier and probably better for me. I'm going to my LQS today, I'll see if they sell them. Thank you! PS I'm a new follower. ;->
if I'm interessted ... hmm of course - what a question. Thanks for the chance!
These look so neat! I have been using the machingers and the sliding mat that Leah Day recommended and they work great, but this would be very neat to try and see if it helps hand fatigue! Thanks for the review and chance to win!
I would love a chance to win the Grip and Stitch Stitching Discs. I saw them in the video of one of our blocks for the 2012 BOM you sponsor. They look very easy to use -- I presently use gloves and would love to try something different. Thank you for the chance to possibly try them!
What a cool idea, count me in.
they do look like they would be helpful for FMQ and I"d love a chance to win!
I have been looking at grippers and hoops for free motion, and these look like something that would be easy to use. I tend to get stuck when I am pushing the quilt, so looking for better ways to move the quilt.
Debbie
I am a follower & would love a set of these.
Thanks SewCalGal -- I've been using Machingers Gloves and I love the way they work -- but it might be easier to use something that you don't need to slip on and off when you're dealing with needles and thread!
Love to give them a try!
Karen
Would love to give these a try--they look more convenient than gloves! Thanks for the chance! :)
I follow the sewcalgal blog. As I want to learn to FMQ and slowly learning about tools, having this in my arsenal as a beginner would be grand. Thanks for the chance.

I am a follower and would love to win a pair of Grip & Stitch disks.
These grippers look interesting! I use the garden gloves and I also use the rubber gloves, cut off as much as possible to breathe! But my hands still get sweaty and icky feeling.
I'm a public follower and would love to try the disks
This is a very interesting and innovative concept. Have not heard about these before. I do use gloves, but this would be a little more freeing. Thanks for the review and giveaway.

Those definitely look interesting. I hate taking my gloves off and on when I am quilting.
Those Grip Disks look like they could be a good investment! Hate wearing gloves.
Soy seguidora tuya desde principios de este año que encontré el FMQ Challenge con el que estoy aprendiendo mucho. Sí estoy muy interesada en sustituir mis guantes por estos discos. Un abrazo.
I wonder if these would also help when arthritis starts to make FMQ a little harder to do. Who wants to even give up FMQ. They certainly sound GREAT!!!!!
Happy Quilting Liz

I have a set of these and I agree they work well. And yes, one nice feature is not wearing hot gloves in the summer. (Or having to put gloves on and off. These you just grab.
I'm definitely interested in winning a pair of the Grip n Stitch. So much easier than having to take off and put on gloves or the fingertip gloves I currently use.
I'd love to win Grip and Stitch. I'd not seen them before.
Those look like a great idea, especially considering we're heading into summer here.

Wow! What a neat idea! I will L♥VE
adding this tool to my quilting. I can see how they will not only work better than my old garden gloves, but be so much cooler. Every time I need to remove a thread with gloves I have to take them off and put them back on. These pads will save time and frustration. ♥♥♥♥!
Wow this sounds wonderful..Hi Sew CalGal how r u? This sounds like it would be great for someone like me who broke their finger and it has to be broke after the first of the year. I can use it but when I put my gloves on to FMQ my finger gets stuck...would love to see if they really glide it would be super duper help for me...thanks for the insight.
I would love to try these. I have been using gloves for years.
Maybe they would improve my sewing Free Motion! Not the worst but really could improve some.
I would love to have a pair to try.
Hi. If those are your hands in the photo, they are gripping the disks. Hanging on for dear life. As I would be. I have seen these before and was curious. Glad you got to try them. Like most everyone else I have problems with my hands but hate to wear gloves. The gloves do help and can't do without them. I would love to try this product. Sally@BabyStepsQuilting.com
I normally wear gloves, but I haven't been able to lately. My hands swell alot and I can't get my gloves on. Thanks for the chance to win.
The disks look like a great idea. Yes, the arthritis in the hands tends to kick in fairly quickly even with gloves, so this looks promising. Thanks for the idea and the opportunity on the draw

Thanks for the giveaway.
Just received the book "Singular Sensations". It is wonderful. Can't wait to get going on one of the designs. I would love to try the Grip and Stitch. I've tried a variety of different ways to hold and move quilt tops through my machine. I always end up back with the gloves but my hands do get hot and it's a relief to pull them off and cool down. THanks.
My free motion quilting needs all the help it can get and these look like they could make the difference!
Wow, these grippers are interesting. Would love to win a pair and try it out with my FMQ. Thanks
