Modern Quilting Designs

CT Publishing will soon release"Modern Quilting Designs: 90+ Free-Motion Inspirations, Add Texture & Style to Your Next Quilt", by Bethany Nicole Pease.  I had the pleasure of seeing an Advanced Reading Copy and wanted to share insights with you.

Bethany is a longarm quilter that enjoys free-motion quilting (FMQ).  This is her first book and she shares insights on how she is inspired by the world around us to create FMQ designs.  Pebbles, waves, vines, flowers, ferns, a pattern on a friend's shirt, etc. can inspire a quilting design.

Designs are shared in a doodling art form that are grouped in appropriate and fun sections:
  • The Essentials:  Freehand Background Fillers
  • Doodle Away:  Continuous Line Designs
  • Showstoppers:  Unusual, Fancy Continuous-Line Designs
  • Nature's Patterns:  Feathers, Ferns, Vines and Leaves
  • Dynamic Focal Points:  Medallions and Borders
  • Mix It Up:  Design Combinations
This book is 112 pages full of fun doodling art that would make beautiful free-motion quilting designs.  This book is going to be an excellent source of inspiration and reference for intermediate level free-motion  quilters.  It will also be a good source for those with advanced skills interested in inspirational designs that ideas to integrate them into a quilt.  For beginning free-motion quilters, this may not be the best book for you, until you have learned the basics and gained enough confidence to look at a design and be able to stitch it out on your own.  To clarify, this is not a technique book that would be a better source for beginners.

This book will be available for shipment in December 2011 and will be appearing in your local quilt shops in early 2012.  CT Publishing is now accepting pre-orders for this book.

This is so amazing! I just finally took the plunge, and tried FMQ for the second time.. first time wasn't so successful.. but now that it wasn't a hot mess, I had no idea WHAT to doodle.. this looks like a great solution.

Hi, Darlene, I was drawn in just by the doodle lines on the cover! Looks like it would be a beneficial book to the free motion quilter ~
