2011 San Diego Quilt Show

The 30th Annual San Diego Quilt Show is currently underway and continues thru Saturday, at the San Diego Convention Center.  I had the opportunity to attend the Preview Party and wanted to share with you some highlights of this years' show.

The Guest Artist is Eleanor Burns, found of Quilt in a Day.  Eleanor gave a very entertaining and inspirational presentation at the preview party and I understand she'll also be giving more presentations throughout the show.  Definitely worth seeing, with beautiful quilts shared, techniques and tips shared for making quilts, and some really good clean entertainment too.  Well, there was the strip-tease that went on, but overall good clean entertainment.
There is an impressive special exhibit that is truly worthy of any international quilt show.  "Photographs on Fibre" that take the idea of merging photographs with fibres to a completely new direction.  Each "small" quilt is inspired by the photograph, but actually becomes an extension of it...the mat and frame.  The photographer is Cameron B. Scott, Visual Arts and Media graduate of UCSD.  The Fibre Artist is Ann L. Scott, owner of Fiber Designs by Ann.

There are also a nice selection of Vendors at this show.  Many are offering Make-N-Takes during the show, for a nominal project fee.   For a complete schedule of these activities be sure to visit the SDQS booth, when you first arrive, as a current schedule will be posted in this booth, as well as a copy in the lobby.  Here is a link to see a list of all the  vendors at this show, but I also want to share some highlights that I hope you'll get a chance to visit with, if you can make it to this show:

This is a great community style quilt show that is fun.  Plus, it is located in San Diego, in the downtown area along San Diego Bay, making this also a perfect place to come and visit and enjoy the wonderful weather of Southern California.  There are many wonderful nearby restaurants, attractions for the entire family, and cool ocean breezes along the waterfront.

If you come by car, I recommend that you do not park in the underground parking area.  There is a multi-story parking, at the South side of the Convention Center, that actually offers the shortest walk to the show.  The trolly is also a good option for visiting this show too!
