Stitched the Film

While at the IQF Long Beach Quilt Show, I had the opportunity to see "Stitched the Film" at the California preview of this film, which was released April 2011.  This amazing documentary follows three quilters, from the International Quilt Association (Randall Cook, Hollis Chatelain, and Caryl Bryer Fallert), over the course of a year, as they make spectacular art quilts to compete in IQA's annual Judged Show.

Insights are shared from a number of artists, judges, editors and quilting enthusiasts as they discuss quilting's past, present and future.  Interesting opinions are also shared on Art quilts vs. Traditional quilts, that may give you a whole new appreciation for both of these these quilting styles.

There is an overall theme that "Behind every stitch, there is a story of friendship, art and passion", which I believe everyone will agree!

The Director, Jenalia (Jena) Morena was at the California preview of this film and also shared insights how she is traveling to quilt guilds, museums, and film festivals to show this excellent documentary.  SewCalGal definitely recommends that every quilter and quilt artist have an opportunity to watch this film, and believes this is a film that many will want to own their own copy.    It would also make for a great program at a guild meeting and/or a fun sew-cial with friends.  Heck, this film would be fun to show at a quilt retreat and even in a quilt store!  The possibilities of having fun watching it with friends are endless!

While a documentary, the film will also make you laugh.  There is fun "Quilt Man", humorous comments, and entertaining music, including the song “You Just Might be a Quilter” and “12 Step Plan for Quilters”, written and performed by Cathy Miller, the Singing Quilter.

For those attending International Quilt Festival Houston, I highly recommend you take time to watch this film and meet Jena, the Director.  It will be shown at 8 a.m. Nov. 3 and 10:30 a.m. Nov. 5th.

If your quilt guild is interested in a screening of this film, or you have other recommendations for where the film can be shown in your area,  please email Jena at jena@picturesmithproductions.com.

If you would like to order a copy: http://www.stitchedfilm.com/dvd/  Orders of 10 or more copies also receive a 35% discount.

Again, this is an excellent documentary.  My take away made me think: "Why didn't anyone think of this previously", "Great job", "I hope that another version will be made again, sometime in the future", and "I hope every quilter, quilt artist, and artist has an opportunity to see this film".

I too hope your library brings it in. We are actually showing Stitched at a library in DC in October.
