LEARNING is fun! And when it keeps our creative juices flowing, it is even more fun. So, I want to confess that I'm truly a new convert to Aurifil thread. I heard from Kelly Jackson (IHAN), Pat Sloan, Sarah Vedeler, and many others how wonderful Aurifil thread was. But it was when my friend, Nini Frank gave me a spool of thread that I began to try it and quickly fell in love with it. I've used it for piecing, free-motion quilting, machine embroidery, threadplay and more. And, in every case I've found it to stitch out with ease and always looks great. This was definitely a positive learning experience.
LEISURE time is something we all want more of but can't buy. Using Aurifil definitely makes my leisure time more fun!
I LOVE color. And, Aurifil comes in some yummy colors. I definitely need more color in my life, aka I need more Aurifil too!
LOFT seems to be getting thinner lately. Hard to believe, but I remember making quilts in the 70's when I wanted them so thick & fluffy that I actually used two layers of batting on some quilts. OMG they were hand quilted too! I am truly happy to see all the new battings that have a low loft. And, Aurifil really does a great job quilting regardless of the loft.
LAVENDER is a yummy color. And, I wish I had a spool of Aurifil Lavender for the block I made to share with you. But, I think it is still cute, even without Lavender Aurifil thread.
In general, I don't have LUXURIOUS taste, except for quality thread and fabric. Aurifil definitely is a luxurious thread.
I had oodles of ideas to create blocks for this blog hop, but somehow the amazing colors of Aurifil thread just called out to me to do some ThreadPlay. And I decided to create an applique block that could be created using standard templates, or with the AccuQuilt GO! and the GO! Rose of Sharon dies. This design is adaptable to machine applique, needle turn, or freezer paper. But, I must admit I had fun using Aurifil threads for some fun threadplay on this block designed to go on point.
If you want instructions to make this block click here. It also has some simple insights on ThreadPlay embellishment. The utility that I used to upload the file allows for a free download. After you click the link you may need to scroll down slightly and you'll see a button that says download. It is free.
This blog hop started February 21st and today, Kelly Jackson (IHAN) and SewCalGal are the final stops on this hop. Lovely block. I am inspired to try some thread play myself.
I love the 50 wt Aurifil thread for English paperpiecing! The thread melts into the fabric so the piecing is invisible. Excellent thread!

I've hears such wonderful things about this thread - would love to try it. Alas, my LQS doesn't carry it.
What a cute block! I know what you mean about LOFT. I have one of those high loft quilts.. one that is a UFO.. from oh.. I think the 90s.. and I don't want to finish hand quilting it.. and machine quilting it.. I don't think so.. and for some silly reason I thought I would quilt the tiniest little details in the thing.. (faint)..live and learn
Great block. After this hop I really need to try Aurifil!
Great post! I remember all of that "loft", lol!! AND it would be LOTS of fun to have a Limitless supply of the Legionary Aurafil thread!!

Pretty block - don't you just want to pet those thread packs? Yummmm. I regularily stock the basics of Aurifil and hope to start trying the colors
Thanks for sharing about the lint problem. It's easier to believe the praise if the drawbacks are also presented. I'm sure it is no worse than the thread I use now and if that is the only downside I will definitely be trying this thread! They sure do have a multitude of colors. Thanks for the pattern!
I have to applique more. It always looks so nice. This thread looks great. I will have to try some of it soon.

My mom is still a firm believer in high loft batting. She likes her quilts to be very puffy. Needless to say, she has never tried machine quilting and low loft battings are GREAT!
I would love a chance to try out some Aurifil thread!
Your thread play is a beaut.
I use Aurifil thread for machine applique. It was recommended for bobbin thread when doing invisible applique. The other weights and threads just didn't work right, tension wise. Aurifil worked right the first time.
Your block is Lovely!!!!! Thank you so much for sharing with us!

I'd love to win - the Aurifl is yummy!
I've only tried Aurifil for piecing, but have been inspired by all the bloggers. I would love to win some other weights to try!
Lint free is a great advantage to Aurifil thread. I buy it in cones and have all the basic colours but would love to add some fun colours to my collection. It is the best for filling your bobbin... you get way more miles of thread on there than with ordinary thread.
Love your square. Thank you.
And I really love Aurifil threads, too. Use it for piecing, machine quilting, and a bit of hand applique. It never seems to snag or pull. Love it!
Joanna
