Quilt Batik!, by Cheryl Brown

Quilt Batik!, by Cheryl Brown,  published by Martingale/That Patchwork Place in 2012, is a wonderful new quilting book that shares insights on creating beauty with beautiful batiks.  But, SewCalGal views the insights in this book would help quilters working in a variety of fabrics, not just batiks.  And, it is an excellent book for those that enjoy creating quilts with batiks!

Cheryl starts off sharing insights about the batik fabrics with an excellent Q&A section which range from the History of Batiks, How Batiks are Made, Batik Colorways, Matching Batiks and more!

There are 12 beautiful designs in this book, with easy to follow instructions.  Projects range in size from 45 1/2" x62 1/2"  to  72 1/2" x  90 1/2" and they all include motif ideas for free-motion quilting.

Some designs reflect traditional quilt designs and some modern, but all really help to inspire quilters to take advantage of brilliant colors and patterns that can be found using modern batik fabrics.

You can use popular pre-cut strips, fat quarters and/or yardage to make many of the projects shared in this book.

This book also shares insights on color and fabric selection tips for your quilts.  The author has also created a YouTube video that shares insights on how to select batiks for quilting.

SewCalGal hopes you get a chance to check out this book at your local quilt shop soon.  It is definitely a book packed with fun projects and insights on using beautiful batiks.

  4. first of all, I can see that I have been "away" WAY too long! I really love your new (to me) banner!

And, secondly, my heart goes pitter-pat WHENEVER is see batiks! there is something about the beauty of the colors kind of blending on the edges and swirling around each other - that gets me every time! This looks like a book that NEEDS to be in my quilting library =)
