Quilting Books with a Pet Theme

I'm definitely a quilting book addict.  First thing I do when I go into a quilt store is check out their books.  And, as I love to share insights about quilting books, I wanted to take this opportunity to do a mini-review on a few of "pet theme" quilting books.

Out of the Box with easy blocks: fun free-form piecing, by Mary Lou Weidman and Melanie Bautista McFarland is a fun quilting book packed full of insights on maching "hoocy mama blocks" using free-form piecing techniques.

Detailed instructions with visuals are provided to make a number of "Out of the Box" blocks, including a cute cat face, cow and more.
Detailed instructions and material requirements are included to make 7 projects, including this cute Purple Cow.  And there is an excellent Gallery section that is full of inspirational quilts.

Sunbonnet Sue and Scottie at Play: Designs in Redwork and Applique' by Suzanne Zaruba Cirillo is a fun quilting book perfect for quilters of all levels that enjoy fun Sunbonnet Sue quilts. Easy to follow instructions and great visuals are included to help you learn various redwork and applique stitches.
Instructions for making applique are included to help you create applique blocks, or redwork blocks, from the 40 block designs that included.  Material requirements and instructions are also included to make four quilts.  And instructions are included to make a very cute quilted mobile and some delightful fabric dolls.

CopyCat Quilts by Dawn E. Navarro is definitely a must have quilt book for the quilter that loves cats, or anyone looking to make a special gift for a cat lover.

There are four cute quilt designs included, each with material requirements and complete instructions that include good visuals.

There are also instructions to create two cute pillows and also a Feline doll.

Again, these are fun quilting books that are perfect for pet lovers or those looking for ideas to make a special gift for a pet lover.

These books were all published by Martingale & Company, home of That Patchwork Place.  And thanks to Martingale & Company, a copy of these books will be given away to lucky winners of the 2011 Pets on Quilts Show.  There are also other quilting books that have been donated as prizes too!

  4. I just purchased " Out of the box with easy blocks", I highly recommend it. It really is a fun way to set yourself free to create blocks, and quilts. Mary Lou and Melanie have such a free spirit you'll be making your own designs in no time. All I need now is more time to sew!
