Library Thing
It is also easy to search books that you may want to read. While I've been using it for quilting books, it works for just about any type of book you may be interested in. And you can read reviews by others. For example, I was interested in the book "Collaborate Again" and was able to quickly pull up info using LibraryThing, which also provided a review from another quilter.
There is also a widget for bloggers to link their libraries to their blogs. You may have noticed I have this widget on the right hand side of my blog.
And, you can also provide a link to non-LibraryThing users if you wish to share information with others. http://www.librarything.com/widget.php?shareID=wfc90d7400b40d6b30486a44fa19f5097&sharefrom=SewCalGal
Plus, LibraryThing offers an Early Reviewer program where you can get books to review for free! And they have hundreds of member giveaways each month.
I know there are various utilities out there that perform this functionality. I'd love to hear feedback from anyone that has experience with LibraryThing or similar tools. But ultimately, I'm hoping more quilters will take time to load their quilting library into LibraryThing and also share reviews & rating via this tool. It really is a handy tool that I believe, if you don't already have such a tool, you'll like this one. I know I do. And it is free and easy to use!

It also appears that Google/Blogger has some known problems with leaving comments. Symptoms are kickbacks. I'm investigating and you may also want to investigate the google forum and other sources. Wow! Making a list of my quilt books is something I've been threatening to do, but just haven't gotten a round tuit. Thanks for the link, I'm going to check it out. Maybe then I won't be buying duplicates of my quilt books. You think?
ReplyDeleteOh dear...more ways to get organized...and here I was happy if I had all (ok, most) of my books in the bookcase!
ReplyDeleteI'll give this library thingy a look...
I have my quilting books and patterns on my word program and keep a list in my purse so I don't buy duplicates. Can you print a list out easily from this Library Thing? If so, maybe I will put this on my list of things to do (an ever-growing list) over this winter!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a great tool that I'm going to have to check out. It would be great to know all the quilting books that I have.
ReplyDeleteFortunately I buy most of my books from Amazon and they have a wonderful feature now that if you are looking at a book and you have already purchased it, a message comes up and tells you that you already bought this book and on what date. It has saved me from buying the same book on several occasions.
I keep a list of my books in a database, this sounds good and easy. I'm going to check it out. Thanks.
