The Road to Cartagena

Time to talk about quilting and travel......

What is the longest distance you have ever traveled for quilting fun?

Have you ever created a quilt to capture memories of a trip?

If you could travel anyplace in the world, quilt, have fun, be on an adventure - where would you want to go?

Can your adventure be associated with the Road to California Conference and Quilt Show?

To get you dreaming about an upcoming adventure, let's enjoy a few  beautiful quilts that were exhibited in the 2013 Road to California Conference and Quilt Show and capture of the essence of an adventure.....

Wondering about the Road to Cartagena?

Road to California and World of Quilts Travel have partnered to create an amazing travel opportunity for quilters. They have a Panama Canal Cruise scheduled for April 15-29th, 2014.  Attendees will be able to take clases with Frieda Anderson, Patt Blair, Melinda Bula, Gregory Case, Anita Grossman Solomon, and Terry Ann Waldron.   And, you'll have an opportunity to visit Cartagena, as well as cross the Panama Canal and visit many other wonderful Ports of Call.

So, I hope you see how the Road to California Conference and Quilt Show helps to take you to the Road to Cartagena.    This "Road trip" will certainly be fun. Wish I could join the fun, but for now I'm happy to share insights on such fun opportunities with others.  Hope you can take travel the Road to Cartagena with other quilters, family & friends.

Wouldn't that be fun!! I have not travelled far for a quilt show. I hope someday to go to Houston and Paducah! Once we get the kids through college, I will definitely make it my goal to visit as many big shows as possible. Thankfully, the Internet is so full of inspiration. It's pretty close to traveling around the world, right? Lol!!!

That sounds like a wonderful cruise! I've always wanted to do a Panama Canal cruise. My great-grandparents did one in 1932. I have the home movies on DVD.

Last summer, my husband had a work conference in Anaheim, CA and we traveled RTE 66 on the way home to TX. It was a lot of fun doing all the cheesy tourist traps. If I had the money, I would love to go to a quilter's retreat, it would be a lot of fun!

In 2001, there was a huge international quilt festival in Barcelona, Spain. I live in the San Francisco bay area of California.

In a completely facetious comment, I wondered aloud to my husband if he would have any objections to me going to Spain for a weekend to see a quilt show?

To my utter surprise, he said, "Sure ..and take [our oldest daughter] with you." She speaks Spanish and the most that I remember from high schools is "¿Donde esta el baƱo?" :-)

After I recovered from shock ... we (my daughter & I) *did*. With a layover in NYC, we spent 4 days in Barcelona, Spain. It was a wonderful, wonderful time. I hope to return some day for a more leisurely exploration of such a beautiful city.

I have driven from my home in central Arkansas to Paducah Kentucky and to the Dallas Texas area for shows. Another trip I made was to Lancaster County PA and selected fabric from the Old Country Store to make a quilt for my mom. Other than those trips though I haven't really made any trips that were just for the quilting reason.
The cruise sounds like great fun - but I can't say that cruises in general have an appeal to me.

Awesome post, SewCalGal!! Love that rainbow zebra!!

I am afraid I haven't traveled too far for quilting adventures - maybe about 2 hours. Hope to do a quilting cruise one of these days.

I just recently took travelled from Vancouver, Canada to Asilomar Conference Centre in Pacific Grave on the Monterey Penninsula for the Empty Spools seminars. We took our time...two days down and two days back with stops at quilt shops and bead shops along the way. What an adventure!!!
