Once again, I've Moved. I'm still changing, still evolving, still growing!

My process for setting goals for 2018 provided time to reflect.  Highlights of what I've decided to do:

SewCalGal was where I originally started blogging, with a focus on those "in the business", where I researched and shared insights about new products, designers, teachers, authors, events, etc..  Some of the content is still helpful, so I unarchived SewCalGal's historical post, allowing them to be viewable.  But I do not plan to post future updates on this blog.

QuiltShopGal was created as SewCalGal grew and when I purchased the domain name, I moved to a self hosted blog.  Unfortunately the costs for me, given I don't make money off of blogging, negatively impacted by own quilting budget and I needed to find a way to minimize expenses of being a blogger, if I am to continue.  Thus, early 2018 QuiltShopGal.com moved to a free wordpress blog and can now be found at www.quiltshopgal2.wordpress.com

Creative Latitude Time was created as followers asked me to share what I was up to personally.  While I don't think I live an exciting creative life, I created a blog where I periodically share what I'm up to.  These are easy posts, where I don't research to share insights, nor do I create something to share insights about a particular designer.  It is a place where I simply share what I create, thru a variety of creative projects.  You can find this blog at:  http://creative-latitude.blogspot.com/

I hope you'll follow me at QuiltShopGal and Creative Latitude Time.

#CreativeGoodness Weekly Linky Party - Theme this week is #FamilyGoodness

Welcome to another week of #CreativeGoodness Linky Parties.  Everyone is invited to participate and we all appreciate those who share their creativity and inspire others to create!

The theme for the party last week was #SweetGoodness.

Thank you for everyone who shared their favorite #SweetGoodness projects and inspired others, as well as to those of you who shared tutorials.  Today I'm delighted to showcase one of the participants that shared an inspirational project with us:

Juanita (CatMama), a non-blogger, shared a super cute video of her grandson "Johnny" opening up a gift of a quilt she had made for him.  This video definitely captures #SweetGoodness with his delight over the cute quilt that Juanita made using a free pattern from FatCat Patterns called "Dinorawr".  Unfortunately I can't embed this video in this post, but I want to encourage everyone to click thru and watch the sweet video Juanita shared.  I think you'll also smile with delight of #SweetGoodness from watching it:
 video:  https://www.flickr.com/photos/48664145@N06/15439598533/in/pool-2726702@N25/

The theme for the party this week is #FamilyGoodness.  And I certainly hope everyone will share some #CreativeGoodness this week, that works with this theme.  Open your door to imagination and creativity.  Maybe ask your family for recommendations on what you should share.  I bet many of you will quickly realize you have oodles of things to share, as well as to inspire others too!  Still, I've listed a few items below that are hope to get creative individuals, that might be stumped, thinking about things they could share for the theme this week.

Our weekly parties are all about creativity, of all forms, where bloggers and non-bloggers are invited to link up and share what they have created, to inspire others.  Any form of creating is welcome so long as you created it, which includes something you designed, created from a free or purchased pattern, recipes, DIY, etc..

Create and Inspire, but this week, this post, it needs to fit with a "#FamilyGoodness" theme to share in this linky party.  But the theme is pretty flexible, as it is your opinion of what is sweet goodness.  Of course tips and tutorials are also appreciated, as we hope to inspire others to create goodness and joy!

If you are looking for ideas, think about #FamilyGoodness through creativity that you might find by one of the following (but this is not a criteria list, just a list to plant the seed to help some think about this theme):
- Creative items you've made for your family and/or items your family may have made
- #KidFriendly projects
- Wearables for the holidays ?
- Accessories
- gifts
- recipes
- DIY projects for the holidays or what ever you want to share that you feel fits the Again, all of the weekly #CreativeGoodness themed linky parties are flexible.  Use your creative powers!

To join the party, simply click the linky tool below and follow the steps to add the url to your blog post or picture in the Flickr Group.

1) Your creative project can be any type of creativity which you feel is appropriate for the weekly theme.  You may want to share a quilt, wallhanging, tablerunner, crochet-knit, embroidery, painted, handmade jewelry, recipe or other handmade/DIY project which you created (your own design, free or purchased pattern, recipe, etc).
2) Of course, tips and tutorials are always appreciated, but not required.  If you did created your project using a free pattern, purchased pattern, or free internet tutorial, SewCalGal hopes you will share with others the info for others to also find the design info that you used to create your project.
3) Old blog posts, old projects, are all shareable.  Just be sure they work with the weekly theme.   And, while not required, it is certainly appreciated when bloggers share a new post that they let others know they are joining this linky party and encourage others to join the fun too!  After all, the more people sharing #CreativeGoodness the more fun we'll all have.
4) Bloggers can share new or old posts, as well as link up more than one post to any weekly linky party. The links that they share just need to fit the weekly theme.  And once you share a link, you can not re-share it in future linky parties.
5) Non-bloggers can participate in weekly linky parties by using Flickr.com and uploading a photo of their projects to a Flickr group "CreativeGoodness".  They can upload as many photos as they want to share to this Flickr group, but they are only allowed to link 5 photos to the linky party (any weekly linky party). And, once they've lined a photo they can not share that link in future linky parties.  Links shared must also fit the weekly theme for the respective weekly linky party.
6) When you join one of these linky parties, you automatically give me approval to snag a picture from your post, whereby I can share it in a future post with a link on my blog to highlight your project.  To clarify, each week I will happily showcase a participant from the prior weeks' linky party.

Next week, our theme for next week is  #NewGoodness .  The next Linky Party will be posted on Friday, January 6th  I hope you will join the fun and share with us what #NewGoodness means to you and how it may inspire your creativity.  It might be a new creative tool, book, dvd or class you received for Christmas, a new item someone made for you or you made for someone else, but for many it may be a new tip or trick that you might want to share by way of a tutorial to help others..  What ever you wish to share that you feel aligns with this theme and you want to share to inspire others is welcome.

Holiday Blog Blitz - Wishing you a very Merry Christmas - Recipe Sharing

Today, SewCalGal is hosting a Holiday Blog Blitz to wish you a very Merry Christmas.  All of the participating blogs will also be sharing a free holiday recipe with you, so I hope you'll take time to hop and have fun too!

I'll confess I got a late start on my baking this year.  I do enjoy holiday baking and sharing with family and friends, especially those that may be unable to do any baking of their own.  While I'm still doing more baking today, I wanted to share with you one of my favorite and easiest recipes that I like to make during the holidays:

Years ago I fell in love with the Oatmeal Cranberry Cookie recipe, that is on the package for dried cranberries (Craisins Brand).  The recipe "as is" is excellent, but I have made a few changes:

Jalepeno Artichoke dip is a tasty and versatile snack that is good served with crackers cold, or as a hot dip.  I like applying it to a Boboli Pizza crust and baking for a yummy appetizer.  When in a hurry this also works for purchased Jalepeno Artichoke dip, but this is the recipe I've been using to make my own dip (spread on a Boboli).

You have brought great happiness and inspiration to me this past year and I am truly grateful.  I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and for those celebrating Hanukkah, I wish for you a very Happy Hanukkah.  And, I wish all of us a Happy Holiday and a very Happy and Healthy New Year that is also filled with peace, happiness, kindness and, of course,  #CreativeGoodness.

Here is the line up of participants in this Holiday Blog Blitz, where you can get a yummy holiday recipe at each stop in this hop.  I've seen a few sneak peaks on the recipes and they really are yummy.  So, click thru, hop, and enjoy #HolidayGoodness.

Sneak Peak - 2015 Free-Motion Quilting Challenge - Craftsy Best of 2014 Sale

As a frugal quilter I do try to take advantage of steals and deals, when I can.  And, as a blogger, I also enjoy sharing such deals with you.  But sometimes I come across them, when I already have something else planned to share.  Thus, earlier in 2014, I launched Fingertip Shopping where I only blog when I come across a good sale that might be of interest.  If you are also a frugal quilter (or crafter) you may want to follow Fingertip Shopping.  I know many have taken advantage of my annual research for #BlackFriday or #CyberMonday sales, as well as various steals and deals that I share throughout the year.  Of course, I also try to share these on twitter and Facebook, but I sometimes barely have enough time to blog about them, so the best way to find out about such deals is to follow Fingertip Shopping!

Speaking of such steals and deals, did you know the Fat Quarter Shop had a 50% off Aurifil sale yesterday?  Yeap, I shared it on Twitter and Facebook, but as it was a Flash Sale for only one day I didn't have time to blog about it. (sorry).

Today I wanted to share a sneak peak with you on the 2015 Free-Motion Quilting Challenge.  And as this sneak peak pertains to Craftsy, I also wanted to share with you insights on their Best of 2014 Sale that is going on thru December 25th.  Plus, don't overlook that you can also purchase a class for a gift!

If you participated in the 2012 or 2013 FMQ Challenge, you are familiar that every month I released a new tutorial and challenge.  Those tutorials are still available and many will be incorporated into the 2015 FMQ Challenge.  Starting January lst, each month a challenge will be released and they'll be five ways to participate where you can learn and/or improve your FMQ skills, have fun, and enter to win prizes.  You can complete one of the five options, or all five.  The more you complete the more entries you'll get to win prizes.  And, all of the options will result in making a pillow that incorporates a specific FMQ challenge.  So you'll end up with beautiful pillows to decorate your home or give away as gifts.

While many of these monthly challenges will incorporate free tutorials from the 2012 or 2013 FMQ Challenges, some will incorporate options of using DVDs or books from FMQ Experts, and some will incorporate classes, specifically classes from Craftsy that are taught by FMQ Experts!  If you have already taken FMQ Classes at Craftsy you know how wonderful these classes are and that they can be flexible for you to complete at your liesure and repeat as often as you like.

If you have not yet taken a FMQ class with Craftsy, or maybe you want to take more classes this year, today is a great day to sign up as ALL Craftsy classes are offered at the best sales price that they've ever been offered in 2014!  Of course, they also have a great deal on fabrics and notions, including Aurifil thread.

While SewCalGal recommends Craftsy in general, for those interested in participating in the 2015 FMQ Challenge you may want to consider taking any/all of the FMQ classes on Craftsy, particularly classes taught by: Cindy Needham, Leah Day, Patsy Thompson, Angela Walters, Christina Cameli, but I'm sure you'll have fun learning and creating by taking any class on Craftsy.

Full Disclosure:  I am an Affiliate with Craftsy.  I signed up after seeing the excellent value and benefits of taking classes at Craftsy.  When someone clicks thru my site to purchase a class, fabric or  notion you pay the same price as if you had visited the Craftsy site directly, or clicked thru from another Affiliates' site.  Affiliates receive a small % back and I use those funds towards supplementing shipping costs for when I pay to ship prizes to winners of contests and giveaways I host.  These funds do not cover all my shipping expenses, but are appreciated.  To clarify, those that remember to click from my blog to Craftsy, when purchasing a class, fabric, or notion are what I view as "Postage Angels" as they help to pay for postage for those that win prizes from this blog.  And, they allow me to keep hosting such events.

Here is an official announcement from Craftsy about this sale:

Get the gift you really want during Craftsy's Best of 2014 Sale happening now through Christmas! Treat yourself while ALL our classes are $19.99 or less, so you can make your best projects in 2015. Shop now to stock up and save.

Once you enroll you'll own your Craftsy classes forever, so you can watch them at your pace in the comfort of your home, anytime. Hurry, offer expires 12/25/14 at 11:59 PM MT.

Craftsy

All categories of #CreativeGoodness are on sale at Craftsy.  You can click the Craftsy button above, or any of the text strings below to visit the Craftsy site from this blog.  I've also added a button on the upper sidebar for Craftsy:

#CreativeGoodness Weekly Linky Party - Theme this week is #SweetGoodness

Welcome to another week of #CreativeGoodness Linky Parties.  Everyone is invited to participate and we all appreciate those who share their creativity and inspire others to create!

The theme for the party last week was #GlitterGoodness.

Thank you for everyone who shared their favorite #GlitterGoodness projects and inspired others, as well as to those of you who shared tutorials.  Today I'm delighted to showcase one of the participants that shared an inspirational project with us:

Maryellen McAuliffe (MaryMack) is a teacher/professor, crafter, dressmaker, costume designer, quilter, singer, baker and cook.  And, a blogger who shares her #CreativeGoodness on her blog, as well as on Facebook.  She also sells many of her beautiful handmade items in her ETSY shop.

Last week, Maryellen shared many inspirational items of #GlitterGoodness with us on her blog.  One photo shared inspiration from nature, of a beautiful icicles with the light of the moon reflection that made them sparkle.  She also shared beautiful quilts stitched with Superior Metallic Light Gold thread that certainly gave a lovely sparkle to her handmade holiday quilts.  I hope you'll click thru to view more insights she shared on her blog, as well as enjoy other posts of #CreativeGoodness.  As she shared, "Tis the Season for Bling!".

The theme for the party this week is #SweetGoodness.

The "Infinite" Ultimate Stencil, by Cindy Needham and Sneak Peak on the 2015 Free-Motion Quilting Challenge

Cindy Needham (1)

Cindy Needham has designed many quilting stencils, over the years and has just released her newest stencil called "The Ultimate Stencil".  This is technically a set which includes a
circle and square stencil.  The set comes with Master Grids printed on paper that you are encouraged to make copies of and use to plan out endless design possibilities.

This new stencil set is perfect for wholecloth quilting, as well as for pieced blocks.  While the stencils are 14", Cindy also shares how you can easily adapt these stencils for larger designs.  One is a circular stencil and the other is square, but they line up well should you want to create a design with both a circle and square combination!

Cindy has created four Youtube videos about the Ultimate Stencil, but I wanted to share with you her Getting Started video:

She has also created a free 27 page downloadable book for The Ultimate Stencils.

SewCalGal thinks The Ultimate Stencil is going to be very popular with those interested in free-motion quilting, as it is a perfect tool for beginners as well as experienced quilters and the design possibilities are endless.  And the price is extremely reasonable!  You can order online directly from Cindy.

Cindy has also created a two book set which SewCalGal highly recommends: Oldies But Goodies ~ New and Improved.
Oldies But Goodies contains 230+ pages, organized in chapters by Blocks, Borders, Fans, Corners, and Wholecloth Medallions.  Also included are sections for Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Stencils, Cindy's "My Design Tools", Transferring Designs, Making Borders Fit and Laying Out a Wholecloth Quilt and much, much, much more!  Cindy calls this book Oldies But Goodies as they focus on older designs and things that she did years ago, but this book is still packed with great information.

New and Improved  contains 100+ pages and focuses on what Cindy classifies as better and improved designs.  It was while working on this book that Cindy came up with the idea of the Ultimate Stencil and she has included many design ideas for this new stencil set in this new ebook that is packed with inspirational design ideas that you can use on your projects, or adapt to make a unique design.  This book shows you how to apply this stencil to blocks and corners, for wholecloth or pieced block designs.  But, the possibilities are endless for The Ultimate Stencil!  #Quiltlove, #StencilLove, #CindyNeedhamGoodness  - SewCalGal loves The Ultimate Stencil!

Time for a Sneak Peak on the 2015 Free-Motion Quilting Challenge:

While details will be shared on this challenge later this month, here are some highlights:
- monthly challenges with 5 different ways to learn/improve your free-motion quilting skills each month.  Participants can complete one or all five options to get up to five entries to win prizes that will be awarded monthly.

- Cindy Needham will be one of the FMQ Experts showcased during the 2015 Challenge and in her month, one of the options in the challenge will be to use The Ultimate Stencil to create a pillow.  Another option will be to create a pillow based on designs and techniques Cindy shares in her COMPLETE COLLECTION of ebooks, which by the way, Cindy updates annually, always adding more value to these books.  Once you have purchased the Complete Collection you will receive free updates annually, so you can think of your purchase as a lifetime subscription to #CindyNeedhamGoodness!

- All five options for the monthly challenge, during the month which showcases Cindy Needham, will be based on Cindy's books, stencils, classes, as well as the free tutorial which she provided during the 2012 FMQ Challenge. More details will be shared soon.

Cindy also hosts wonderful workshops and retreats that you can sign up to attend.  She has an Xtream collection of stencils that she brings to share, with her students, as well as a vast collection of Superior threads.  She also travels the world teaching, which you can check her calendar to see if she is coming to an area near you.  Of course, you can also ask your local quilt guild and/or quilt shop to schedule a class with her too!  Or consider taking one of her online classes at  Craftsy:
