Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...on my table runner!

I'm always looking for ways to make gifts, items to go into gift baskets for fundraisers, and items for my home, in a fast and easy way!  I am truly amazed that I was able to make this cute table runner in less than 20 minutes (probably more like 12).

Don't you think this would make a cute gift ?  And wouldn't it (or a  version of it) look great in your home?  This was so easy, I've truly fallen in love with snowflakes and tablerunners!.

While I love snowflakes I'd never want to take the time to cut a snowflake out by hand.  But with the AccuQuilt and the Holiday Medley Die it was very easy, fast & accurate!.   The AccuQuilt made it so easy to make a detailed applique design!     Think of the possibilities with these cute snowflakes, trees, holly and holly berries that you can create with this die (stockings, decorated purses, decorated jackets, decorated dishtowels, etc)!  It is so easy you could easily make oodles of gifts and decorate your home with lovely items using this die and an AccuQuilt Go, all by Christmas!

For this table runner I used a pattern from Marlene Lewellyn, of Sandy Quilts.  Her easy table runner is truly a design you can make in ten (10) minutes or less.  I couldn't believe how easy her instructions were to follow and how fun it was to make a table runner using her method.  And I loved decorating my table runner with my AccuQuiltGo snowflakes on the back, creating a reversible table runner!

Road to California - Update

I have some new insight about the upcoming Road to California quilt show and wanted to share.

There are still a few classes and lectures that have openings.  For instance:

Monday, January 11th
Jamie Wallen is teaching "Mystical Cotton Tracks 2", for Long Arm Quilters (not a beginner class).

Tuesday, Jamie Wallen is teaching a "Thread Fusion" class.

Thursday, January 14th, Superior Threads is having a class "Texture Magic Tote".

Saturday, January 16th, Bob Appell will be teaching a fun class called "Go Wild".

Saturday, January 16th, Alex Anderson, from Simply Quilts is having an evening lecture.

Sunday, January 17th, Paula Reid is teaching a Trapunto by Machine class.

Sunday, January 17th, Virginia Walton will be teaching Wedge Frenzie.

Sunday, January 17th Mary Ellen Hopkins is holding a fun lecture "Wear Your Big Girl Panties".  This lecture is only $5.  As you never know if you'll be this lucky again, so I highly recommend you sign up for this lecture and enjoy the fun, while resting your feet!

But check out the Registration page on the Road to California website for a more current and complete list of open classes & lectures.  And many of the lectures have openings, and also give you a chance to put your feet up and relax!

I also have heard that there is going to be a Sale-abration on Sunday.  Vendors will be putting a "few" items on sale.  And there will be fun raffles!

Road also has a special exhibit this year.  They will be showing 20 quilts all quilted by different longarm quilters who were invited to participate in this challenge.  You will not want to miss this exhibit.

Show Hours: Thursday - Saturday 9:30 am - 6:00 pm
Sunday - 11:00 am - 3:30 pm

SewCalGal also believes that a trip to the Road To California quilt show or a class at Road would make a great gift. So, feel free to share this with the Santa in your life if you want to drop a hint.

Snowman Quilt, by Pat Welsh

I love this Snowman Quilt design, by Pat Welsh.  It is from Stitchin' Post in Sister's Oregon.     Sadly, I'm not certain I'm going to have time to finish this quilt for this Christmas, so I thought I'd share the pattern with you.   There are many delightful quilts with snowman designs, but I liked the ability to do some threadplay with this particular design.  Possibilities are endless!

Pat Welsh will also be teaching a seminar, for Sulky, on March 11th where I'm sure those that are lucky enough to take her class will enjoy learning from Pat.  I'd love to be able to take a class from her!

SewEzi Tables

While I've not used a SewEzi table this table looks like a lightweight portable sewing machine that would be great to take to classes, retreats, or on vacation.

This table comes with a carrying case that has wheels and two handles making it easy to pull along.

The SewEzi table will work with most commercial sewing machines and has an insert that is custom for each model of machine.  To clarify, the SewEzi table comes with one insert and if you have other machines you can order extra inserts for a perfect fit with your SewEzi table for all of your machines.

Barbara Huthmacher, of Quilted Patches, will be at the upcoming Road to California quilt show, with a booth of SewEzi tables.  But, as they'd make great Christmas Gifts you may want to go online and order one for a gift, or for a gift for yourself!  http://www.seweziusa.com/

Angels

I fell in love with this quilt which was on display at the Road to California Quilt Show in 2008.  Unfortunately I do not know who created this beautiful quilt.  I love the design & colors.  And I absolutely love how this quilt was embellished with appliqued angels and special words.  Absolutely delightful.

The Road to California is a wonderful quilt show.  January 14-17, 2010
Ontario Convention Center, Ontario
You can come to this show by car, bus, or plane. But do come.  You'll enjoy it.

Check back, as I hope to provide more insights to help you plan a trip to see this show, as well as share current insights on classes that are still open.

A Christmas Quilt made by Judy Leftwich

This beautiful Christmas quilt was made by Judy Leftwich, whom I consider a master applique quilter.  She is very talented.  I feel very lucky that she let me share this beautiful quilt on my blog and I hope you enjoy it too!

This quilt design is "The Blizzard Bunch" by Pearl Louise Designs of the Thimble Cottage.

Judy is also entering this beautiful quilt in my Virtual Christmas Quilt Show.  There are many beautiful quilts on display in this quilt show.  You can win prizes by entering a quilt, as well as stopping by and viewing quilts.  Random drawing for winners will be made on December 25th. And, check back as, I'll be posting insights on how you can win a prize by voting for the "Viewer's Choice". ...but as I know more entries are coming in, it is a bit early to ask for votes for the Viewer's Choice Quilt!

Christmas Projects with KittyKitty Designs

First, I apologize for not being able to capture better photographs to share.  Maybe Santa will bring me a new camera.  But I really wanted to share this with you, thus I'm opting to post this insight even though I do not have a great photograph.

When I do machine embroidery projects I like to do a "test" before I stitch out on my desired item.  At the same time, I like to assume that my test "might" be something that could be usable vs completely tossed.  Thus, I'm always looking for inexpensive items for my "test" projects with the thought that something might result as being usable.  In this case, my test stitchout was created on a very inexpensive tote bag from Target!  What you are seeing is the result of one of my test projects, but I had truly had planned to share insights with you on this designer with a better example.  Hymm..please forgive me.

KittyKitty Designs is a delightful design house for wonderful machine embroidery designs by Teriann Shrum.  My initial stitchout of her design I decided to "test" on an inexpensive tote from Target.  As this design stitched out so beautifully, I played with some embellishment and also lined the bag with holiday fabric, to make for a perfect gift "wrapping" for Christmas gift (and eventually be used as a holiday tote bag).

I found KittyKitty Designs to be high quality and easy to use.  Her "Mock Cathedral Window" design, which is what I've shown, is absolutely delightful.  I've previously posted about this design, using examples from other quilters who applied machine embroidery to their qult.  I was very pleased to see such great results by KittyKitty Designs.

Since my previous posts, KittyKitty Designs has added a "Mock Card Trick" design.  Card Trick has always been one of my favorite quilting designs, so I am very excited to see it as a machine embroidery design by KittyKitty Designs.  While I've not tested the Card Trick ME design, I'm confident it is a wonderful design that would be easy to stitch out.

In conclusion, I think KittyKitty Designs would help make delightful Christmas gifts, as well as giving a KittyKitty ME design (or gift certificate), would also be a wonderful gift.

Hemet Quilt Show

I fell in love with this cute quilt at the Hemet Quilt Show, a few years back.  Unfortunately, I don't know who the creator/designer is.  Maybe they'll come forward, as I'd love to have them enter my Virtual Christmas Quilt Show:  http://tinyurl.com/ygpbael    {Update:  Follower Melinda shared that the designer of this quilt is  Nancy Halverson of Art to Heart}.

Maybe I'll be able to find out who created this delightful quilt when I visit the Hemet Quilt Show in 2010.  This is a fun quilt show, that everyone would enjoy.   Many beautiful quilts and a great selection of Vendors!  I hope you too can come enjoy the beautiful quilts at this show:

Songs For Christmas: Down At The Quilt Shop

DOWN AT THE QUILT SHOP

Down to the quilt shop quilters go,
Out comes the MasterCard all aglow.
Out through the checkout with lots of stuff,
All for the quilts and the tools and such.

CHORUS

Sew-sew-sew,
Who wouldn't sew.
Go-go-go, who wouldn't go
Down to the quilt shop
Click-click-click.
Out through the checkout with lots to snip.
First are the UFO's that fill the drawers,
So many there that we can't ignore.
Finish them all, do them one by one.

Finish them all then we'll have some fun.

CHORUS

Next come the quilts that are in our heads,
All that we've planned for all our beds.

One for the master room and one for the guest,
We'll stitch them all and do our best.

CHORUS

Last we'll make gifts for all our friends,
Quilts and placemats without end.
Coasters and bookmarks, ornaments - so much!
Wrap them up in ribbons and bows and such.

Fun Christmas Projects

I'm having fun making Christmas gifts and items to decorate my home for the holidays. It has been fun to work on projects while listening to Christmas music. And we finally have some rain in Southern California, so it now feels like winter has arrived.

Two fun projects that I've been cutting fabric for today are from patterns that I won from a C&T Publishing giveaway, earlier this year.

This cute design by Joni Pike, of Sew Speical Designs, is called Snowflakes (#810).  It also goes well with the Hillcreek Designs hand dyed button package called "Snowflakes".   I just love this cheerful snowmen!

And this "Krismas Kats" design (#795), also by Joni Pike of Sew Special Designs, is absolutely purrfect for Christmas!    And Hillcreek Designs has a delightful packet of buttons called "Krismas Kats" that works beautiful to embellish this quilt, as well as a package of buttons (#795) from Just Another Button Company.  I recommend this design and both packets of buttons to make this quilt spectacular for the holidays!

These designs are well written with easy to fusible designs, that make for a fast quilt project that you can quickly finish in time for Christmas!

Komen Fundraiser: Christmas Quilt Winner

I want to share with you who the winner is of this quilt.  But before I do I want to recognize those that inspired me to donate this quilt, as well as to recognize them for helping to increase awareness of breast cancer and to raise funds for Susan G. Komen For The Cure.

This particular quilt was made with the intent to raise money for Susan G. Komen For The Cure.  I has just been looking for a way to help, and ultimately a good home that would appreciate it.

While I have held fundraisers to benefit Susan G. Komen For The Cure, I was inspired with those that were helping for this cause, and decided that I would donate this quilt to help encourage sponsorship for some special ladies that were helping to increase awareness of breast cancer and raise funds for Komen.  As such, efforts were launched to create a quilt raffle.  Anyone that donated $25 (or more) would have their name entered into the drawing for this quilt, when they sponsored any of the following:

- Karen Nager in the 3-day Walk For The Cure
- Carrie Nisil in the 3-day Walk for the Cure
- Team MBYC, led by Megan Murphy, in the 1 day walk
- Team Pink Lemonade, led by Sue Martin & Tanya Mauer, in Survivor Crop.

Sponsors were given an entry for every $25 donation.  A unique number was created for each entry and the Random Number generator was used to select the winner.

But, before I announce the winner of this quilt, I want to thank:  all team members of Team MBYC, all team members of Pink Lemonate, Carrie Nisil and Karen Nager.  Collectively they helped to raise over $15K+ for Susan G. Komen For The Cure.  This will help to fund preventative mamograms for many people, as well as help with treatment for those in need. It will certainly make a difference in the lives of many.  For this, I give thanks to all of you!

And for all of you who helped to sponsor these teams and individuals who helped, I thank you.

Again, the random number generator was used to select the winner of this quilt.  The winning #55 goes to
Hugh Ditzler, whom sponsored Karen Nager in the 3-Day walk.  Congratulations to Hugh.  I'll be contacting Karen to help coordinate getting this quilt to you ASAP.

Zundt Designs - Fine Swiss Embroidery

Zundt Designs offers a variety of high quality machine embroidery designs.  I've found their designs to consistently stitch out with ease, create minimal jumps, and all  their designs are delightful designs.

Today I played with Zundt Designs "Feathers II" collection, focusing on a peacock feather design.  While I thought the recommended colors were an excellent choice, I had fun playing with different thread colors to help me select appropriate colors to stitch this design out on a light background, as well as a dark background.  My "test" stitchouts today were performed on inexpensive "tea towels", which I also enjoy giving away as gifts, and have found they make excellent filler items in gift baskets for charity fundraisers.

I always like to do test stitchouts and play with different threads & colors before I stitch out on my final project.   But I have learned that if I'm going to do a test stitchout I'd rather select something like a tea towel, tote bag, or other inexpensive item, that might become a gift or usable item, if the stitch out works.  But I do avoid using expensive items (e.g. high quailty jackets, shirts, linens, etc) if I haven't used the particular design previously.

This "Feathers II" collection is a fairly new design set, which Zundt introduced at the IQF Long Beach Show.  There "Feathers I" collection is also a lovely set.

After my successful "test" stitch outs of this Zundt Design, I like my thread color selection and now want to stitch this design out on a jacket, as well as a beautiful Pasmina Wrap from All About Blanks.

Zundt Designs can be purchased online at Zundtdesigns.com, as well as many quality stores that sell embroidery machines also sell Zundt Designs.   I'm sure you'll be happy with the quality and designs by Zundt Designs.
